Everything you need to know about The Time Traveler’s Wife

Based on the book by Audrey Niffenegger, The Time Traveler’s Wife follows the love story of Henry DeTamble and Clare Abshire.

Henry, a librarian, suffers from an extremely rare genetic disorder that causes him to spontaneously transport through time. This inevitably leads him to Clare, whom he first meets in a field when she is just six years old.

With their timelines inexplicably connected, the pair later meet when they’re the same age, fall in love and get married, but the complications of his condition means that it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain a relationship when they don’t know when he’ll disappear, when he’ll turn up next, and what age or state he’ll be in when he does.

Told in a video diary style from both perspectives, The Time Traveler’s Wife aims to share the highs and lows of enduring love.

The series was created and developed by Doctor Who director and writer, Steven Moffatt, and premiered in May 2022 on HBO in the US.

Who stars in The Time Traveler's Wife?

The Time Traveler’s Wife centres around two characters – the titular time traveller, and the wife who stands by him throughout his years. Due to the jump in timelines, this does mean that multiple actors play the same characters due to the age differences.

Clare Abshire is mainly played as an adult by Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones, The Good Fight). Younger versions of the character are played by Everleigh McDonnell (Truth Be Told, Good Girls) and Caitlin Shorey (Mr Harrigan’s Phone).

Theo James (The White Lotus, The Gentlemen) plays the most prominent version of Henry DeTamble. Younger versions of the character are played by Jason David (For All Mankind, General Hospital) and Brian Altemus (Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, Harlan Coben’s Shelter).

Other key cast members include:

  • Desmin Borges (You’re The Worst, Utopia) as Gomez

  • Natasha Lopez (Runner Runner, How Did That Happen?) as Charisse

  • Michael Park (As The World Turns, Stranger Things) as Philip Abshire

  • Jaime Ray Newman (Dopesick, Little Fires Everywhere) as Lucille Abshire

  • Taylor Richardson (The Gilded Age, American Horror Story) as Alicia Abshire

  • Peter Graham (OTP, The Resident) as Mark Abshire

  • Kate Siegel (The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass) as Annette DeTamble

  • Josh Stamberg (The Affair, Parenthood) as Richard DeTamble

  • Chelsea Frei (The Moodys, Sideswiped) as Ingrid

  • Marcia DeBonis (Heels, Orange Is The New Black) as Nell

  • Will Brill (The OA, The Marvelous Mrs Maisel) as Ben

  • Spencer House (Tell Me Lies, The Society) as Jason
