You might know him as The Rock, but here at Sky we know Dwayne Johnson as one of the best action heroes to have ever blessed our screens.

Starting his career as a wrestler, Dwayne Johnson has become one of the most in-demand stars on the planet, and he’s always expanding his CV. Now not just a built and braun champion, he’s also proven himself quite the comedian, and even documentarian when the moment calls for it.

The Mummy Returns (2001)

The Mummy Returns was Dwayne Johnson’s film debut - even though it was a fleeting one. Johnson portrayed the mythical Scorpion King in the opening scene of the movie, who leads an army in 3067 B.C. When the army is defeated in war, they are exiled into the desert of Ahm Shere to die. Out of water and losing hope, the Scorpion King makes a pact with the God Anubis to live, but soon discovers the deal comes at a price.

The Scorpion King (2002)

Considering Dwayne Johnson made his feature film debut in The Mummy Returns, it seems like a full circle moment that he took his first leading man role in the same franchise.

Set 5,000 years before the events of The Mummy Returns, The Scorpion King is an origin story of the man behind the legend, and what brought him to that status.

As a desert assassin, Mathayus is hired by the free tribes to stop evil king Memnon from ruining their land. But the task is nowhere near as easy as expected.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (2012)

In a sequel to 2008’s Journey to the Center of the Earth, seventeen-year-old Sean Anderson is joined by his new stepfather Hank (Johnson) on an adventure to the South Pacific after picking up a coded distress signal. Tracking down the source to an island that shouldn’t even exist, the pair must head on a quest with the help of helicopter pilot Gabato and his daughter, Kailanito to rescue his adventurer grandfather that went missing years ago.

San Andreas (2015)

In this action flick, Johnson stars as Raymond Gaines, a chief search-and-rescue helicopter pilot in the midst of a divorce. When a devastating 9.1 magnitude earthquake tears through California from Los Angeles to San Francisco, Ray finds himself on a mission with his estranged wife, Emma, to locate and save their trapped 18-year-old daughter, Blake, before the next round of quakes.

Fast Five (2011)

In his first introduction into the Fast and Furious family, Johnson made his debut in Fast Five as Luke Hobbs, an agent for the US Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) who is out to track down Dom Toretto, who, along with his sister Mia and Brian O’Connor after they’re framed for murder.

With the help of their drifting team, the group set up base in Rio de Janeiro, need to confront the businessman that wants them dead, and do one final, $100 million heist before they disappear for good.

Doom (2005)

In Doom, Johnson takes his brawn and world-saving abilities into space for a new mission - as an elite member of the Rapid Response Tactical Squad space marines.

When the RRTS are sent to Mars after a security breach at a facility base, only to immediately come under attack by evil looking creatures.

They soon discover that a scientific experiment splicing alien DNA and injecting it into people has been turning its subjects into monsters, and they need to stop it before it’s too late. Major catch? The issue is highly infectious.

Rock and a Hard Place (2017)

In his first documentary, Johnson stars and produces a film following incarcerated young offenders who have traded a prison sentence for a stint at a youth prison boot camp in Miami, Florida.

Given six months to turn their life around, the camps aim to help teens overcome their mistakes and become more constructive members of society, but the course is an often brutal and testing one that pushes people to their limits.

Young Rock (2021 - 2023)

In a unique autobiographical tale that ran for three seasons, Young Rock sees Johnson recount elements of his life through a sitcom format. Starting in the early 2030s, Johnson plays himself as he runs in the United States Presidential election.

Recounts of his life see the sitcom jump back in time, with Adrian Groulx playing the 10- to 14-year-old kid nicknamed “Dewey”, Bradley Constant as Dwayne ages 15 to 17, and Uli Latukefu portraying him from ages 18 to 26.

The series covers everything from his life with his parents in Hawaii, through to his efforts to look cool in front of girls as a teenager, and his early career in wrestling.

Ballers (2015 - 2019)

In Ballers, which ran for five seasons and 47 episodes, Johnson takes on the sports world in this comedy-drama, starring as retired NFL player Spencer Strasmore.

A former Miami Dolphins legend, Spencer is struggling with life after the peak of his career, and starts working as a financial advisor - aiding his younger friends and upcoming stars with their new contracts.
