Everything you need to know about Matt Smith’s upcoming TV series, The Death of Bunny Munro
Following his wife Libby’s suicide, sex addict, door-to-door beauty product salesman and self-professed lothario Bunny finds himself saddled with his young son and only a loose concept of parenting.
With nine-year-old Bunny Junior by his side, he embarks on an epic and increasingly out-of-control road trip across Southern England as the two struggle to contain their grief in very different ways.
As Bunny bounces from one sales pitch to the next, trying to seduce any woman he meets, Bunny Junior kills time talking to the ghost of his mother and distracting himself from the dawning realisation that his dad isn’t just fallible, he’s a f**king mess.
However, as Bunny spirals, he realises he must do something to rescue his son from his own outdated notions of what it is to be a man.
The Death of Bunny Munro is a darkly comic and unflinching modern-day parable as well as a tender portrait of the relationship between father and son.
The six-part limited Sky Original series, The Death of Bunny Munro is based on Nick Cave’s sophomore novel of the same name.
Nick Cave executive produces the series alongside Matt Smith, who also stars as the titular troubled salesman.

Is The Death of Bunny Munro based on a book?
Yes – The Death of Bunny Munro was originally a fiction novel created by Nick Cave, and was first released in 2009.
Interestingly, before becoming a novel, the concept was created with the intention to become a film. When the team were unable to get the project off the ground, Cave decided to turn the story into a book.
Speaking about the journey to bringing The Death of Bunny Munro to screen, and how it ended on the page, Cave explains: “I just sat down and worked on it. [John Hillcoat] sent me a lot of research on the world of the door-to-door salesman, which has largely disappeared from the world now, and a beautiful book on Butlin's seaside resorts. These were the elements that went into the writing of this script. I just found the whole thing fascinating. Then John shopped it around.
“I think we had Ray Winstone attached to it. He loved the character of Bunny Munro. He said he was Bunny Munro. But he was young then – this was 20 years ago – and we couldn't find anyone to get behind it. Eventually I got impatient with the idea of it being a film, and sat down and wrote it as a novel, maybe a couple of years later.”
