Brett Goldstein, born 1980, is a British actor, stand-up comedian, podcast host, writer and producer.

He has become best known for playing Roy Kent in Ted Lasso, as well as his distinctive accent.

Raised in Sutton, Goldstein grew up with a love of movies, eventually getting his degree in film studies at the University of Warwick. He later studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York.

Returning to the UK, he started landing a series of roles in short films, TV series, while creating his own material.

At the same time, he also began touring on the stand-up comedy circuit with his show Brett Goldstein Grew Up in a Strip Club, an ode to his father’s brief stint of owning one in Marbella.

During this time, he began a working partnership alongside Catherine Tate, helping her co-write her sitcom, Nan, and then later, The Nan Movie.

In 2020, he signed up to help write Ted Lasso, later being cast as Roy Kent, the gruff veteran footballer based loosely on Roy Keane. He has since won two Primetime Emmys for the role.

He currently splits his time living between Los Angeles and London.

Most notably, Goldstein played Roy Kent in Apple TV+ series, Ted Lasso. He’s also credited for writing 13 of the 36 episodes the show has made.

He also created Shrinking for the same streaming service, and stars as Louis, appearing alongside Jason Segel and Harrison Ford in the comedy.

Other credits include Ricky Gervais’s Derek, Hoff the Record on Dave, Drifters, Uncle, Doctor Who and the movie, All of You.

In 2022, he made a brief appearance as Hercules in Thor: Love and Thunder in the MCU.

He also hosts podcast Films to Be Buried With.
