Everything you need to know about Frasier
Frasier follows titular psychiatrist Frasier Crane as he moves from Boston, Massachusetts back to his hometown of Seattle, Washington following his split from wife, Lilith.
Once there, his plans to embrace a fresh start as a single man are hindered when his father, Martin, moves into his apartment alongside his beloved dog, Eddie.
This quickly grows to include live-in physical therapist Daphne, who looks after Martin as he suffers mobility issues after being shot in the line of duty while working for Seattle PD.
Martin’s presence proves to be a hindrance to Frasier, who prides himself in having high-class tastes and intellectual conversation, while Martin is a blue-collar worker whom he has little in common with.
Thankfully, he at least has his brother, fellow psychiatrist Niles, on hand to help him with his home problems – even though he has issues of his own.
Soon, he finds himself hosting a call-in radio show, helping listeners with their dilemmas with the help of smart-mouthed producer, Roz.
Launching in 1993, Frasier became an immediate hit, and despite its end in 2004, continued to be aired on TV across the world.
In 2023 – thirty years since the show made its debut – Frasier was officially rebooted to Paramount+.
The new series follows Frasier returning to Boston in a bid to have a better relationship with his son, Frederick, and taking up a position as a professor at Harvard University.

Who stars in Frasier and where have we seen them before?
The key cast members for the original series were:
- Kelsey Grammar (Partners, Hank, X-Men) as Dr. Frasier Crane

However, only Grammar returned for the reboot as a full-time cast member, with Pierce and Leeves both turning down the opportunity to reprise their roles.
John Mahoney, who played Niles and Frasier’s father Martin, died in 2018, and it was decided they would not recast him.

Is Frasier connected to any other shows?
Yes – Frasier is actually a spin-off of another beloved sitcom, though it has a different tone and a very loose connection.
Frasier Crane was initially a character on Cheers, which is set in Boston, not Seattle. He was a regular at the titular bar and was seen having ongoing issues with his ex-wife, Lilith (played by Bebe Neuwirth).
Cheers ran from 1982 to 1993 – with Frasier starting the same year it ended.
