Everything you need to know about Paramount+ drama, 1883

In this spin-off to the Yellowstone universe, 1883: A Yellowstone Origin Story (often shortened to simply Yellowstone 1883) follows the birth of the Dutton dynasty.

The series follows the Dutton family, hundreds of years before the events of the original Yellowstone, as they move from Tennessee to Fort Worth, Texas, before making their way through Oregon to Montana. This becomes the birth story of what fans now know as the Yellowstone Ranch.

The first major new addition of the franchise, 1883 launched in December 2021 and ran through to February 2022.

1883 is comprised of 10 episodes overall.

This is considered a limited series, and there are currently no plans for season two.

Yellowstone has been developed into a fully-fledged franchise, with many focusing on different eras of the Dutton dynasty, as well as key locations connected to the main show.

Yellowstone (2018 – 2024)

Yellowstone launched in 2018 and followed the Dutton family – a powerful dynasty and owner of the largest ranch in Montana.

The series follows the family’s own personal problems and their interpersonal fights, as well as their fight against developers, the Broken Rock Indian Reservation, and the National Park that share the borders of their homestead.

Kevin Costner leads the cast as its patriarch, with Kelly Reilly, Luke Grimes, Cole Hauser, and Wes Bentley completing the central family unit.

The show will end with part two of its fifth season in November 2024.

1923 (2018 – Present)

Hollywood legends Dame Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford lead the cast of this spin-off, which is also subtitled ‘A Yellowstone Origin Story’.

It acts as a sequel to 1883, jumping forward in time as the Dutton family navigates the prohibition era and Great Depression.

A second and final season has been confirmed but was hit with delays due to the 2023 writers' and actors’ strikes. It is not known when the show will be released.

The Madison (Yet to be released)

The Madison is another all-star cast spin-off, led by Michelle Pfeiffer as wealthy matriarch Stacy Clyburn.

After a devastating family tragedy saw Stacy’s husband and brother-in-law die in a plane crash, the Clyburns move from Montana to New York.

Filming was believed to begin in August 2024, with plans for a 2025 release date.

6666 (Yet to be released)

The Four Sixes Ranch is a prominent location in the main Yellowstone series, with the show expected to follow the goings-on of those who work there in the present day.

However, this show was announced in 2021, and as of August 2024, there has been no further news regarding its development.

It’s believed there have been delays to its release due to the pushback of the final Yellowstone season and the SAG/WGA strikes of 2023.

1944 (Yet to be released)

1944 was announced to be in development in February 2023, but currently, there is no further information regarding release or plot available.

However, it is expected to touch on the US’s involvement in World War II, with D-Day occurring in June of that year.

**What is the age rating of 1883?**

Yellowstone 1883’s official rating in the UK, as certified by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), is 15 for the overall series.

This means this is not suitable for children or younger teens.

Reasons for this rating include:

Full frontal female nudity in a non-sexual context
Violent scenes and acts including scalping
Sexual violence including attempted rape
Small amounts of blood and gore
Frequent use of profanity
Some graphic scenes of peril that some may find upsetting
