What is The Bear about?
The Bear follows the dramatic (and often intense) world of a beloved Chicago eatery and the chef that’s trying to give it a new life.
Following the death of his brother Mikey, award-winning and up-and-coming chef Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto takes over his Italian beef sandwich shop, leaving behind the Michelin-star fine dining world he is used to.
However, with the business drowning in debt, a subpar kitchen and a team of staff who are not best pleased with the changes he wants to implement, Carmy finds himself in an uphill battle to transform the restaurant into an haute cuisine restaurant in his own image.
As he does so, he continues to deal with the grief of losing his beloved brother, frequent panic attacks, and the pressure put on him by his family, his staff and himself to succeed.
Thankfully, he has a support network that’s determined to help him – even if they’re dealing with personal and professional issues of their own.
First released in 2022, The Bear has become an international hit, turning the cast, led by Jeremy Allen White, into household names.
To date (March 2026), the series maintains an impressive 96% approval rating on critics aggregate site, Rotten Tomatoes. It was created by Christopher Storer, who previously co-produced the sitcom Ramy.
