It’s time to say goodbye to The Bear – but there’s still some chaos to be had as the series enters its fifth and final season.

With Carmy deciding he’s leaving the restaurant in the hands of Sydney, Richie and Sugar, the trio have to come to terms with the realities of having a business on their shoulders.

But with Uncle Jimmy’s countdown deadline now up, will there even be a restaurant left to run by the end of it all?

Season 5 starts almost immediately after the end of season four – with Uncle Jimmy’s countdown clock to save the restaurant flashing at zero.

As Chicago is hit with a flash flood, The Bear is hit with even bigger problems thanks to a non-functioning app and a growling water system. Richie gets in a crash, which sends him spiralling. Marcus introduces Luca to the joys of a McGriddle, but is left disheartened when his friend shares some news. Sugar takes a big leap with Donna, and Uncle Jimmy makes a decision about the building, bringing along young Cheese to help him.

The worst disaster possible hits the restaurant, just as Richie decides to implement a new “maximalising” initiative. As the team scrambles to save what they can, Sugar struggles with the financial realities of the business, and Marcus panics ahead of his father’s impending visit to the restaurant. As Sydney takes control, Carmy struggles to let go.

With just a few hours to go before service is set to begin, the reservation system reveals something that puts further pressure on the team. Sydney struggles with maintaining authority with Carmy so close by, leading to a revelation that shakes the team, especially Ebra. Meanwhile, Uncle Jimmy begins to investigate a new way to deal with the building, as Fak heads to the roof to fix some things.

An eye-opening discussion with Richie leads Carmy to reconnect with what made him want to be a chef in the first place. Sydney cements down a menu, while Richie opens up to the team and Sugar struggles with mum guilt. With opening time approaching, it’s time for the team to club together.

As the restaurant opens for the night, the team are ready for anything – but the rain immediately causes disruption to their workflow. Tensions rise between Marcus and Luca as Marcus begins to make bizarre demands, but Tina gets some overdue recognition for her role in the kitchen. Richie’s calming exercise proves useful when a colleague gets involved, which catches Sydney’s attention. Uncle Jimmy and the team make a desperate plea in a last-ditch effort to do what they can for the building.

With the restaurant quickly getting busy and the team under immense pressure to get everything out in time, Richie has a confession to make to Sydney as he gets creative to accommodate everyone. Marcus and Luca reach a boiling point which threatens to ruin the entire service, prompting Carmy to discover the true difference between his and Sydney’s leadership style. Sugar gets a welcome release from all the tension. Cheese discovers something that could change Uncle Jimmy’s future plans.

As the final round of service kicks off, Sugar welcomes an unexpected guest at the restaurant. The team begins to struggle with guests who are taking their time leaving their tables, but Sydney gets excited when someone she admires makes an appearance. Marcus’s father arrives for his reservation. With food stock running low, a series of slip-ups causes Carmy to spin out, while Tina gets her time to shine.

In the series finale, the team at The Bear look at what to do next – be it in their career or personal lives. As Richie gets an exciting opportunity that leaves him terrified, Carmy receives a phone call he’s been waiting for a long time, before heading to an interview away from the world of culinary arts. As the family gather together for Eva’s birthday, the team one-by-one realise the ingredient that makes the restaurant so special.
