Lee: The Cast & Characters Hero Image

Kate Winslet leads the cast in this dramatic retelling of the life of celebrated American war correspondent, Lee Miller.

Lee, set during World War II, sees this pioneering and fearless journalist as she attempts to document the truth behind Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Regime in Germany.

Despite the odds being stacked against her as a female correspondent, Lee and her team ultimately capture some of the most significant images of the war.

However, this comes at a hefty personal cost.

Tracking a 10-year period of Lee’s life, starting in 1938, the film aims to tell the story of an important woman in history and what she did to document the atrocities of the era.

Here’s everything you need to know about the cast and characters, and those who inspired them.

Who are the key cast and characters of Lee?

Elizabeth ‘Lee’ Miller

Played by: Kate Winslet (The Regime, Titanic)

Elizabeth Miller, known most affectionately as Lee, was an American model and fine art photographer turned photojournalist at the turn of World War II.

She became a war correspondent for Vogue during that time, capturing photographs of the London Blitz, the first use of napalm at the siege of St. Malo, the liberation of Paris, and the inside of concentration camps at Buchenwald and Dachau.

She even managed to photograph the inside of Adolf Hitler’s apartment in 1945, posing for a photograph in his bathtub.

“I’m surprised that a film has never been made about this incredible woman and I think the reason is her life was so vast that once you take a bite, you can’t stop chewing,” Winslet told Deadline.

“What she did, as a female photographer on the front lines during WWII, so much of what was documented was not just giving a voice to the voiceless, but it was educating people on what actually happened during the war. You have to remember, people were trying to cover it up. She had to make them believe it because no one would.”

Kate Winslet is a highly-celebrated, Academy Award-winning British actress, whose previous work includes Titanic, Heavenly Creatures, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

She was most recently seen in Sky Original series, The Regime.
