We Own This City – Episode Recap
We Own This City is a limited series that ran for six, hour-long episodes, starting in the year 2015 with police officers investigating a string of heroin overdoses.
Episode 1
As Harford County Narcotics Task Force Officers David McDougall and Gordon Hawk trace a string of heroin overdoses to the work of drug dealers Aaron Anderson and Antonio Shropshire in Baltimore, it’s up to officers Momodu Gondo and Jemell Rayam to clean up the evidence at an apartment before they arrive.
Meanwhile, Civil Rights attorney Nicole Steele starts looking into Baltimore’s police, who are under scrutiny after the death of Freddie Gray while in police custody. Soon she becomes aware of the dozens of complaints made against Officer Daniel Hersl, who is still in action despite the significant alerts.
Fast forward to 2017, and the GTTF’s leader, Sergeant Wayne Jenkins is arrested by Internal Affairs, as Gondo is grilled by the FBI.
Episode 2
In a flashback to 2004, Sgt. Jenkins starts his first day of field training – where he’s taught to make false arrests and aggressively remove people from the streets in a bid to lower the murder rate, thereby aiding in politicians getting re-elected.
Back in 2015, McDougall and Kilpatrick edge closer to the truth when they discover Officer Gondo’s connection to drug dealer Shropshire.
In 2016, Sean Suiter - who strives to be an honest policeman and homicide detective - investigates the murder of a family man, while Nicole Steele meets with a young cop explains just how far corruption in the BPD goes.
Episode 3
In another flashback, Jenkins’ reckless behaviour and forcefulness on the job continues to grow, with Suiter working alongside him in a raid. After more complaints are waged against Hersl, he is moved into the GTTF.
In 2016, Commissioner Davis meets with Nicole to discuss Hersl’s behaviour and why he’s not been removed from his position. Suiter tracks down a killer and takes him into custody.
Jensen and Sieracki begin to get what they need to take down the GTTF.

Episode 4
In 2010, Jenkins starts a high-speed chase that ends in tragedy, forcing him to try and cover things up quickly, with Suiter ‘discovering’ drugs in the vehicle.
As Jenkins’ corruption continues to evolve in the years that follow, no one seems to be safe from his brutal behaviour, with his unit soon becoming embroiled in his schemes in a bid to get higher arrest counts and make a profit themselves.
In 2016, Suiter discovers prosecutors are struggling with convictions as, in the wake of Freddie Gray’s death, trust in police testimony is at an all-time low.
Episode 5
Nicole continues to investigate Hersl and his wrongdoings, encountering a man whom the officer robbed and falsely charged. She then is stonewalled by Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh, who is hesitant to help push through Nicole’s initiatives.
In 2017, as more interviews with the corrupt officers take place, the former brothers-in-blue begin to turn on each other to save their own skin, while Suiter begins to fear he may be in trouble with his own involvement in Jenkins’ earlier crimes.
Episode 6
With President Trump coming into power, Steele makes a big decision regarding her future fighting for police reform.
Despite being backed into a corner, Jenkins continues to insist he has done nothing wrong, even with seven of his GTTF colleagues turning on him.
Suiter is called before a grand jury to testify about his time in the GTTF, but tragedy strikes while he’s on duty the day before he’s due to appear in court.
As time runs out and the trial nearing, Jenkins faces justice for what he did while on the force.
