Harrison Memorial Hospital (Season One)
The pilot episode of The Walking Dead saw Rick Grimes wake up from a coma to find himself in Harrison Memorial Hospital. During Rick’s hospital stay, the deadly outbreak occurs and he staggered out of the building to find hundreds of rotting corpses.
Later on – in season nine – the hospital was briefly seen in Rick’s dream.
Centre for Disease Control (Season One)
Established in 1946, the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) was the HQ for the public health agency in The Walking Dead. The CDC was used as a base for the survivors and was where Dr Edwin Jenner operated from when trying to discover a cure.
The building exploded in Season One.
The Greene Family Farm (Season One & Three)
The Greene Family Farm belonged to the Hershel family and post-apocalypse became a place of refuge for the survivors from Atlanta.
West Georgia Correctional Facility (Season Two, Three & Four)
West Georgia Correctional Facility was originally a prison before it was overrun during a riot.
Months later the prison became a survivor camp after it was cleared by a group led by Rick Grimes. But in 2012 a battle ensued, forcing survivors to regroup elsewhere and the prison became overrun by the dead.

Woodbury, Georgia (Season Three)
Woodbury was a fortified town in Woodbury, Georgia. The town was founded shortly after the Trials began and was home to several survivors – and run by The Governor.
In June 2011 – after a conflict between Woodbury and a group of survivors led by Rick Grimes – The Governor killed his community with Woodbury left abandoned.
Terminus (Season Four)
Originally a train station, Terminus was a secure base for the Hunters. Initially, Terminus was meant to be a safe compound for survivors but it was taken over by a gang before an uprising saw the residents regain control.
Later, Terminus became overrun by walkers before being destroyed.
St Sarah’s Church (Season Five)
St Sarah’s Church was used as a base after Father Gabriel Stokes was saved from being attacked by walkers. Later, Father Gabriel – having left the church to investigate the high school – was followed back by walkers who eventually overran the church.
Weeks later, Morgan Jones found the church and discovered evidence that his friend was still alive.
Grady Memorial Hospital (Season Five)
Grady Memorial Hospital served as a main location in the fifth series, having been the base for several Atlanta Police Department members following the apocalypse.
In season five, the hospital continued to exist but under strict rules and with patients being kept as prisoners. After a trade went wrong and with Beth being killed in the process, Noah and Rick left the hospital with its status remaining unknown throughout the remainder of the series.

Alexandria Safe Zone (Season Five, Six & Seven)
Alexandria Safe Zone was a settlement that started out as a quarantine zone for politicians before it became a community that was considered the start of restoring civilisation.
It was damaged during an attack before being rebuilt and run by Rick Grimes’ wife, following his disappearance. Later, Alexandria was taken over by the Commonwealth Army and became a labour camp before a group of residents revolted and regained control.
Eastman’s Cabin in the Woods (Season Six)
The secluded cabin that belongs to Eastman serves as a key location in season six when Morgan stumbles upon the cabin and - despite a rocky start - the pair form a close friendship. Later, Eastman is bitten by a walker and begins to grow sicker so, Morgan leaves the cabin in search of other survivors.
Hilltop Colony (Season Six & Seven)
Hilltop Colony was a farming community formed by survivors who were sent there at the start of the outbreak. Not long after, Hilltop Colony was overtaken by a group called the Saviors but later a deal was made between the Hilltop community and those at the Alexandra Safe Zone to oust them.
Over the years, a violent war took place damaging the property but under the leadership of Maggie Hilltop Colony was rebuilt.
Later, Hilltop was destroyed when it was set on fire during the Whisperer War leaving Maggie to rebuild the community once more. Eventually it was colonised by the Commonwealth before being abandoned for good.
The Kingdom (Season Seven)
The Kingdom was a walled community that was home to a group of survivors and led by Ezekiel.
The Kingdom was seized by the Saviors but after meeting a member of the Hilltop Colony, an alliance was formed with the joint goal of ousting the Saviors. The Coalition emerged victorious and the Kingdom regained control of the community.
Years later, whilst hosting a fair to reunite the communities of the Coalition, a cult infiltrated the area and killed several fairgoers - including Ezekiel’s son.
Months later, the Kingdom was abandoned and the residents relocated to other communities.

The Sanctuary (Season Seven)
The Sanctuary was a secure facility that the Saviors used as their base.
After the war between the Saviors and the communities of Alexandria, Kingdom, Hilltop and Oceanside the Sanctuary was taken over by Daryl Dixon who served as the leader for eighteen months.
Months later, the Sanctuary fell and was left abandoned for the years that followed before being destroyed in 2022.
Oceanside Cabin Motor Court (Season Seven)
Oceanside was a campground that became home to a community of women following the apocalypse.
Junkyard (Season Seven)
The Junkyard (aka The Heaps) was home to a group called the Scavengers.
Originally, the site had been a landfill and the Scavengers used this to their advantage – using the rubbish to create walls to protect them from the zombies.
