Everything you need to know about The Apprentice
With Donald Trump’s presidential election victory in November 2024, The Apprentice has become one of the most talked about films of the year.
Starring Sebastian Stan as the business mogul, The Apprentice leans into the building of the persona and career we have come to know today.
Here’s everything you need to know about the movie.
What is The Apprentice about?
Tracking the early years of Donald Trump’s career, The Apprentice starts in 1973, where the young businessman meets Roy Cohn at a chance meeting in a New York restaurant.
Cohn is a notorious lawyer, who shot to fame after successfully prosecuting Julius and Ethel Rosenberg for espionage and leaking top secret information about the US war efforts to the Soviet Union.
During their interaction, Donald hires Cohn to help his father, Fred Trump, after he’s accused of discrimination against African-American tenants. The mutual decision kickstarts a close bond between the pair, with both leaning into dirty tactics for their own benefit.
Over time, Cohn is seen by Donald as a mentor and father figure, with Cohn instructing him on how to act in public and never admit defeat, with Donald’s image soaring as a result – in both positive and negative ways.
But as Donald gets more reckless with his development projects, his ego grows as does his debts, and he begins to get more cutthroat, affecting the entire Trump family and his relationship with Cohn in pursuit of the perfect image.
Power comes at a cost – and Donald Trump is willing to pay it.
