What happens in Rooster Season 1, Episode 6?

_*Warning: Major spoilers ahead_*

Greg and Cristle continue to hook-up, but after one evening together he hurts her feelings by referring to it as a “no-strings-attached” booty call. Meanwhile Katie and Archie are also continuing to see each other in secret, though she is clearly feeling more guilty about it than he is. When she asks if it makes him feel ‘icky’, Archie says no – it makes him feel good.

Their latest rendezvous is interrupted by Greg’s arrival, who has stopped by to show Katie his new e-bike. It takes less than five minutes for local cop Donnie Mullins to pull him over, unsure whether or not it’s “street legal”.

Archie heads to grab coffee with Sunny, who is desperately waiting for some good news on her internships. When she’s turned down by one, he reassures her, saying whoever hires her will be lucky as it’ll be the smartest thing they’ve ever done. Their sweet exchange is seen by Katie and Dylan.

During Greg’s latest lecture, he spots Tommy asleep at the back of the room. At the end of the session, he asks if he’s doing OK, and Tommy shares that he fell behind on rent, so his roommate kicked him out and he’s been sleeping on Spooner’s floor ever since. Greg offers to let him sleep at his place for a couple of nights.

Puck Off

At hockey practice, things go south quickly when it’s clear the Coach has been drinking again and is getting aggressive with one of the students, DJ. Greg breaks it up, and tells the coach to take a shower, but he’s so out of it he crashes into the wall.

During one of Walt’s lectures about Theodore Roosevelt, Greg joins Cristle in the audience, who, under agreement with Walt, sits in so she can start the applause. When he asks what she’s up to later, she tells him that as a single parent and a woman who knows her own mind, she wants to be treated properly and go out on a date rather than feel like a “cheap floozy”. He invites her out for dinner and she agrees.

Archie meets up with Katie and asks for a hook-up after getting good feedback from his editor about his book, but she wants to gain some self-respect back and says no. He tries to push it but gets offended when she asks if he’s still sleeping with Sunny. He admits he is but insists it’s “never within the same 22-hour window” as her, which disgusts her. She tries to walk off, but he says she just needs to say the word and he’ll leave Sunny to get their marriage back on track. She doesn’t know if she wants that. He says he hopes she "chooses us”, but if she doesn’t, he kind of owes it to his unborn child to make it work with their mother. She’s appalled at his attempt to make two-timing seem like the moral high ground.

When Greg arrives in a “For Katie” T-shirt, Katie flips and asks where he got it – and discovers her student Zoe is giving them out around campus.

Dylan gets to work on getting the Ludlow Review back up and running, but Walt pulls her out. He likes that she’s embracing her position as Interim Dean of Faculty and asks if she’s received an anonymous piece he submitted. She has but it didn’t work for her.

Katie tracks Zoe down at the diner, who offers her a t-shirt. Instead, Katie tells her to stop. She doesn’t need her to punish Archie for her, because as a narcissist with a baby on the way, he’s got enough punishment coming his way. She also doesn’t appreciate becoming the face of a cause without being asked, and also the photo she chose makes her look like Nancy Pelosi. Zoe agrees but is crushed by the exchange.

Making Big Moves

With Tommy now living with Greg, they waste no time getting into common roommate quarrels, with Tommy using his deodorant and toothpaste. Running late for his date, he can’t even contact Cristle because his phone’s dead (having tried to charge it on Tommy’s broken charger). On route, Greg is stopped by officer Mullins again, who claims that he checked and his e-bike isn’t street legal. However, he gives him a hug and decides to let it slide, because it turns out the kid at hockey practice he saved from the coach was his son, Donnie Jr.

Donnie Sr. gives Greg a get out of jail free card – which has his name and number on it and will get him out of trouble once for anything but murder – and sends him on his way. Unfortunately, by the time he gets to the restaurant, Cristle’s already gone.

Mo and Sunny join Walt at his sauna, where he shares that Sunny didn’t get the Biotecha internship… because they want to straight up hire her. Mo and Walt are delighted for her, as she’s been offered a full-time position in the lab, they’re willing to work around the pregnancy, and don’t mind her not completing her post-grad degree.

However, Sunny is freaking out. When Walt checks on her, she admits that she knows it’s a great opportunity, but it will mean moving away from Archie and given the pregnancy she’s not sure she can. Walt tells her the job offer is worthy of celebration, but the celebration is quickly ruined by his wife Joanie, who realises Biotecha means she spoke to Dianne Jennings, Walt’s ex. In the panic, she confirms it, and Walt knows he’s in trouble.

Greg shows off his new bike to Dylan and gives her a ride to work. At Walt’s office, Greg tries to apologise to Cristle, but she doesn’t want to hear it, noting his behaviour isn’t how people act when they want to start something real. They’re interrupted by Walt, who notes that his wife is now staying in a hotel (but doesn’t know which one).

Being Crystal Clear

In class, Katie notices Zoe is downbeat, and feels guilty for snapping at her, so asks Greg for advice on what to do. He’s surprised she doesn’t open up more to her students and encourages her to do so. As does Tommy, who is listening in on the conversation from the end of the sofa.

When Archie asks Sunny if there’s been any news on the internships, she says no. Mo is proud she would lie to him, but Sunny says it’s because she doesn’t want to make the decision just yet.

At Greg’s house, Tommy has the boys over, and they’re impressed by Greg’s snack game. Eli asks if Tommy’s been able to fix things with his parents, but Tommy brushes him off. Instead, they start trying to get information on Greg’s secret hook-up and encourage him to try again with a date.

When the boys leave, Greg asks Tommy what Eli meant about patching things up with his parents, and he admits they would only pay his rent on campus if he kept an above C grade average, which he’s not doing. As a result, they want him to move back in with them in town until his grades are back up, but the only class he’s doing well in is Greg’s (which Greg questions). While Tommy wants to stay with Greg, Greg says he can’t back out of a deal he’s made and tells him he needs to go back to his parents’ house, promising they’ll meet up and come up with a study plan together.

Katie spots Zoe cleaning up a “For Katie” graffiti tag and asks to talk. She tells her that she didn’t like the T-shirts because she didn’t like seeing her face everywhere but shouldn’t have come down so hard on her. She says she’s not the strong woman Zoe thinks she is and is struggling with her feelings for Archie. Zoe says she knows she’s not perfect, but she was relatable – and that’s why she was her favourite teacher.

As Dylan makes herself at home in the Dean’s office, she’s interrupted by Walt. Riggs is back, his heart attack not affecting his smoking habit or attitude one bit. Her time as Dean is over.

At Greg’s date with Cristle, he asks about her name, and she says it’s actually Crystal. Walt got her name wrong on the first day, and she never corrected him because, as a newly-divorced mother, it felt like some kind of fresh start. She’s grown to like being Cristle. The date goes well and they head back to her house.

However, when Greg makes a trip to the fridge to hydrate (post-coitus) he runs into her son… Tommy, who has literally caught him with his pants down.
