What is The Pitt about?

HBO Max drama The Pitt follows a team of emergency department staffers at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center during a stressful 15-hour shift.

Facing difficult patients, understaffing issues, funding difficulties and emotional pressure, the series builds up the tension in real-time – with a whole season taking place over the same day and each episode representing an hour of the shift.

Leading the team is Dr. Michael Robinavitch (aka Dr Robby), who juggles the admin, patients and interns under his care while also dealing with his own mental health.

Launching in 2024, The Pitt became a smash hit for HBO Max, being praised for its medical accuracy and sensitivity around the difficulties doctors and nurses face.

At the time of writing (February 2026), it has a 97% score on review aggregate site RottenTomatoes.

How many episodes of The Pitt are there?

The Pitt has run for two seasons, coming to a total of 30 episodes.

Both seasons have 15 episodes, playing out a 15-hour shift in the hospital in real-time.

Season three was confirmed ahead of season two’s premiere and is expected to be released in January 2027.

The Pitt became an immediate fan favourite upon launch in the US, building a devoted following quickly.

After the first season alone, the show was nominated for 60 awards, winning 29.

What is the age rating of The Pitt?

The Pitt’s official rating in the UK is 15 for the complete run, meaning it has been deemed unsuitable for younger audiences.

As a medical drama, much of the story is based around injury and illness, with blood, gore and death to be expected throughout. Patients are also of all ages, with children and the elderly among those who may be treated in the story.

This show also contains:

  • Some depictions of male and female nudity (in a non-sexual context)

  • References and storyline around drug use and prescription drug abuse

  • Frequent use of profane language

  • Some use of derogatory language

  • Scenes of violence including physical and gun violence

Where can I watch The Pitt in the UK?

The Pitt will be available from 26 March 2026 on HBO Max. If you have Sky Ultimate TV or Sky Q with an eligible package, you will have access to HBO Max Basic with Ads as part of your Sky subscription.
