Unhappy that Luke is his superior at the factory, Tony hires a private investigator to dig for dirt on him. Meanwhile, Deirdre worries that Peter has resumed his heavy drinking.

Jason is angry that Audrey's financial demands mean Bill can no longer afford to keep him on full-time, while Tom is upset to learn of the new management structure at Lad Rags.

Peter's drinking causes concern when he leaves Simon with Deirdre for the afternoon. Fiz receives a letter from John, and Maria is jealous of Natasha and Tony's relationship.

Deirdre finally stands up to Peter and refuses to leave Simon with him. Julie fears she might be pregnant, but Kirk is delighted at the prospect, while Tom apologises to Maria.

Deirdre threatens to call social services about Peter's drinking. Dev asks Minnie to pretend to be an art dealer, and Molly's plans irritate Sally.

Ken's refusal to deal with Peter's drinking threatens the lives of both the bookie and his son, while Maria is surprised by her discomfort with Tony and Natasha's relationship.

Peter's cigarette sets fire to the carpet so Simon makes an urgent call for help, but is soon overcome by smoke. Tara is humiliated to discover Dev's deception.

As Simon fights for his life in hospital, Peter pledges never to drink again. Dev is guilt-ridden when Tara returns with an apology, and Fiz arranges to meet Chesney's teacher.

Fiz makes a sudden decision when she learns why Chesney has been avoiding school. Kirk ends his relationship with Julie, and Graeme believes Joshua could be a talented footballer.

Overawed by Ken's advice on home-tutoring Chesney, Fiz seeks help from an unlikely source. Not satisfied with his private detective's report, Tony demands he keeps digging.

Fiz struggles to control her emotions as she talks with John and tries to focus on Chesney. Tina is unhappy to find Joe still living at Gail's, and Norris makes an announcement.
