What You Need To Know About Little Bird:

● Little Bird tells the story of a 20-year-old woman named Esther Rosenblum who goes in search of her biological family after discovering a newspaper clipping about her adoption.

● The story, while fictional, centres around the real ‘Sixties Scoop’ movement in Canada, which removed First Nations children from their families and placed them in middle-class homes.

● As the story unfolds, Esther (real name Bezhig Little Bird) navigates the balance between the life she should have had and the world she’s grown up in – including the privilege, class, and racism that came with it.

● Little Bird is a six-episode limited series and comes to Sky Atlantic and NOW from August 18th, 2026.

What is Little Bird about?

Little Bird follows the story of Esther Rosenblum – a 20-year-old woman who, before she was adopted, was known by her real name: Bezhig Little Bird.

When she was just a child, she and her family were torn apart in what became known as the “Sixties Scoop”, a controversial Canadian child welfare movement that ran between the 1950s and 1980s, where thousands of First Nations children were taken from their families under the pretext of them being “neglected”.

The children were then put into the foster system to be adopted by mostly white, middle-class families. Born on the Long Pine Reserve in Saskatchewan, Bezhig had a loving family before she was forced into the targeted Indigenous transracial adoption program, the Adopt Indian Métis (AIM) Program.

Fostered by a Jewish middle-class family in Montreal, the now 20-year old Behzig – renamed ‘Esther’ by her new family – aims to seek out the truth and reconnect with her indigenous roots and heritage.

Told across two timelines, starting in 1968 and 1985 respectively, Little Bird navigates class, racism, nature vs nurture and the meaning of family in this heartbreaking tale of identity.

First launching on Crave in Canada in 2023, The Guardian praised Little Bird as being “beautiful and moving” and also said it “will fill you with a visceral anger.”
