Gomorrah

What is Gomorrah about?

Gomorrah is an Italian crime drama series. Set in Naples, it explores the brutal world of the Camorra, a powerful and violent Neapolitan crime syndicate. The story centres on Ciro Di Marzio, a loyal member of the Savastano clan, as he follows the orders of his boss, Don Pietro Savastano, as well as his family members, including Pietro’s spoiled son, Genny, who wants to follow in his father’s footsteps.

But as power struggles begin to erupt within the Camorra, alliances begin to shift, betrayals are made, with Ciro’s personal ambitions leading to devastating consequences. The series delves deeply into the social, economic, and moral decay caused by organised crime and the people trapped within the criminal underworld.

Based on the bestseller “Gomorra” written by Roberto Saviano, Gomorrah ran for five seasons from 2014 to 2021 and became one of the biggest Italian series in the world, being sold to over 190 countries.

It maintained a strong 85% rating on review aggregate site RottenTomatoes, with The Telegraph stating for season five: “Gomorrah's farewell series is a long goodbye worth sticking with until the very last drop of blood is spilled.”

How many episodes of Gomorrah are there?

Gomorrah ran for five seasons, totalling 58 episodes.

The first four seasons were each 12 episodes, with season five being reduced to 10.

This was, in part, due to the coronavirus pandemic, which delayed planned summer 2020 production to early 2021. Covid protocols were then put in place in order to get the season made.

Are there any spin-offs of Gomorrah?

Yes. In December 2019, spin-off movie L'Immortal was released. It acts as an accompaniment to Gomorrah's third season, with the plot happening both before and after the events of the main series.

In 2025, it was announced that Gomorrah – The Origins, a prequel series to the main show, had been greenlit.

It will focus on the beginnings of Pietro Savastano as he begins his career as a gangster in 1977’s Naples, Italy.

The series is set to launch on Sky Atlantic in early 2026.
