Flora played by Melissa McCarthy
Flora is not your classic genie character. Having spent 2000 years imprisoned in a jewellery box, she is a fish out of water when she finds herself released in modern-day New York. Flora’s duty - whilst trying to adjust to the modern world – is to fulfil Bernard’s wishes, with the pair forging an unexpected friendship along the way.
Melissa McCarthy is an Oscar nominee and Emmy award winner, known for some of the most iconic and side-splitting comedies of our time. You might recognise Melissa for her role as Sookie St James in Gilmore Girls or for more recent projects including iconic comedy movie Bridesmaids, sitcom Mike & Molly and fantasy film The Little Mermaid.

Bernard played by Paapa Essiedu
Bernard is a man, who despite his best intentions, has lost his way in life. He has taken on too much, attempting and failing to balance family and work. But just when Bernard thinks he’s reached rock bottom, he accidentally releases a magical genie and what follows is a journey of growing friendship and self-discovery. As Richard Curtis puts it “Bernard’s not your typical fairy tale figure, but rather a person who doesn’t fully grasp the impact of his actions on his loved ones”.
Paapa Essiedu is an Emmy and BAFTA nominee, who has appeared across TV and stage. In fact, you can even catch him in Sky Original sci-fi thriller The Lazarus Project and Sky Original crime thriller Gangs of London. His performance in I May Destroy You earned him an Emmy and BAFTA nomination.

Flaxman played by Alan Cumming
Flaxman is Bernard’s villainous boss. Every film needs a baddie, and that’s exactly who Flaxman is.
Alan Cumming is a Scottish actor, who is known for his various roles on stage and screen which have earned him a multitude of accolades including two Tony Awards and an Olivier Award. In what can only be described as full circle moment, Alan played the role of Bernard in the 1991 BBC movie, Bernard and the Genie, which Genie is based on.

Julie played by Denée Benton
Julie – Bernard’s wife – is a writer who is busy juggling her career and being a mother to seven-year-old daughter Eve.
Denée Benton is an American actress, who earned herself a Tony nomination for her role as Natasha in the 2016 Broadway musical Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812. Her TV roles include playing Peggy Scott on The Gilded Age.

Lenny played by Marc Maron
Lenny is the doorman of Bernard’s building and a potential love interest of Flora. As the doorman for the building, Lenny is the go-to guy for some of the building’s best gossip.
Marc Maron is an actor and comedian, who is known as the host of the long-running acclaimed podcast WTF with Marc Maron.

Eve played by Jordyn McIntosh
Eve is Bernard and Julie’s daughter - described as a chaotic, charismatic and lovable little girl.
Jordyn McIntosh is an actor who has appeared on Abbott Elementary, Imprisoned and now is starring in Sky Original movie Genie.
