Blue Bloods: The Cast & Characters Hero Image

Blue Bloods is coming to an end – but in the case of the Reagans, family (and crime-fighting) is forever.

Frank Reagan, played by the legendary Tom Selleck, certainly has his work cut out for him when it comes to his family and as the Commissioner of the New York Police department.

Running for 14 seasons, the much-loved crime drama has everything you need.

Now available on Sky Witness and Paramount+, viewers will be able to catch up on Blue Bloods from the beginning, with hundreds of episodes to keep you busy.

Here’s everything you need to know about the key cast and characters in this crime procedural.

Who are the key characters in Blue Bloods?

Commissioner Frank Reagan

Played by: Tom Selleck (Magnum PI, Three Men and a Baby)

Patriarch of the Reagan family, Frank is a former Vietnam Marine and current NYPD Commissioner.

He is a third-generation police officer with both his father and grandfather serving in the force before him.

Frank is well respected among his peers and by the city, to the point where public officials including the mayor have felt threatened by him.

However, he has also had to contend with shifting opinion toward himself and the police in general as the public call for increased scrutiny and accountability on the part of the NYPD.

Detective Danny Reagan

Played by: Donnie Wahlberg (Saw II, The Sixth Sense)

Danny Reagan is Frank’s eldest surviving son and Detective First Grade with the NYPD.

At the start of the series, he has served with the police for 15 years, including two years where he took a leave of absence to serve two tours in the Iraq war with the Marines.

He’s a serious, headstrong character, who many see as a loose cannon.

Much to Frank’s concern, Danny can get dangerously close to crossing the line when working a case, often relying on his partner Baez to reel him in.

Officer/Sergeant Jamie Reagan

Played by: Will Estes (American Dreams, The Dark Knight Rises)

Frank’s youngest son, Jamie starts the series as a young police officer and recent Harvard Law School graduate.

Later, he is promoted to Sergeant. In contrast to Danny, Jamie has a more easy-going approach to life, although he becomes more stoic as he experiences the darker side of the job.

ADA Erin Reagan

Played by: Bridget Moynahan (Sex and the City, Six Degrees)

Frank’s only daughter, Erin is a New York County Assistant District Attorney (ADA).

She graduated from Columbia University top of her class, and it is implied that she had a rebellious streak while growing up.

She is a single mother to daughter Nicky, having divorced from her criminal defense lawyer husband Jack.

Erin originally planned to join the police like the rest of her family, but later decided against it, choosing a career as a prosecutor instead.

Former Commissioner Henry Reagan

Played by: Len Cariou (About Schmidt, When They See Us)

Henry Reagan is a hard-nut retired New York City Police Commissioner, and the father of Frank Reagan.

He was also a Marine in World War II and the Korean War, joining the NYPD in the fifties.

Something of a grizzled veteran, he shares many traits with his grandson Danny, abhorring the political correctness that modern law keeping is now subjected to.

Linda Reagan

Played by: Amy Carlson (Law and Order: Trial by Jury, The Society)

Linda Reagan was the wife of Danny and mother to their two sons.

She is originally a stay-at-home mother but later returns to her previous career of nursing.

She is often at odds with her husband’s obsessive attitude towards his career and questions if he prioritizes his job over his family.

She tragically dies later in the series when the medivac helicopter she is riding in crashes, with the suspected involvement of a Mexican Cartel.

Nicky Reagan-Boyle

Played by: Sami Gayle (Vampire Academy, Candy Jar)

Nicole “Nicky” Reagan is Erin’s daughter and begins the series aged 14 years old.

She later graduates from Columbia University at the end of season nine.

She is more liberal than many of her family members, (her uncle Danny, in particular), but still decides later in the series to follow the family tradition in becoming a police officer.

In season ten, she accepts a position in San Francisco, moving away from the family.

Detective Maria Baez

Played by: Marisa Ramirez (General Hospital, Against the Wall)

Maria Baez is Danny’s longtime friend, introduced in the third season and replacing the departing Detective Jackie Curatola as his partner.

She was previously a member of the NYPD’s Joint Bank Robbery Task Force, and one of the few people that Danny will listen to.

Officer Eddie Janko-Reagan

Played by: Vanessa Ray (Pretty Little Liars, Suits)

Edit “Eddie” Janko is introduced to the series in season four as Jamie’s partner.

The two became close very soon after working together, with much sexual tension.

However, as neither wanted to jeopardize their career, they were a “will-they-won’t-they” couple for some time.

This eventually broke in season eight, where they accepted their feelings and got engaged, with the pair marrying in the season nine finale.

Detective Jackie Curatola

Played by: Jennifer Esposito (Law and Order: SVU, The Boys)

Jackie Curatola was Danny’s original partner for the first three seasons of the series.

She regularly had to contend with the misogyny on the force and from the public at large.

Curatola chose to leave the force when the stress of the job began to show and left New York to become a small-town police chief.
