What is Under the Bridge about?

Disney+ series Under the Bridge follows the investigation into the disappearance and death of 14-year-old Reena Virk, who while living in Saanitch, British Columbia went missing after attending a party with friends.

As a teen going through a rebellious phase from her Indian and Jehovah’s Witness family, only Officer Cam Bentland takes the disappearance seriously until Reena’s later found dead, having been beaten and drowned.

The series tracks Bentland’s mission to get justice, and the tragically horrific turn the investigation takes when it becomes clear eight young teenagers could be responsible for the crime.

At the same time, reporter Rebecca Godfrey heads to the town in order to investigate troubled teens in the area, and finds herself pulled into the investigation as new information comes to light.

Under the Bridge is based on the true story of Reena Virk, who died in 1997 at the hands of her social group, but elements of the story –  including some names – have been changed for the purposes of the series.

The events of the show are based on the books Under the Bridge by Rebecca Godfrey, and Reena: A Father’s Story by Reena’s dad, Manjit Virk.
