In True Detective: Night Country, a strange disappearance at a lab in Ennis, Alaska brings back memories of another disappearance years prior – are they connected?

That’s what Detectives Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro have to find out. But with their personal lives and unexplainable phenomena threatening to disrupt their case, they must keep their wits about them to find answers.

With the suspect pool small but circumstances proving difficult to explain, can the pair work past their own troubles to get to the truth?

Detective Liz Danvers

Played by: Jodie Foster (Silence of the Lambs, Panic Room)

Liz Danvers is a hard-nosed detective in Ennis, Alaska, who has definitely lost some friends along the way. She plays by the law but is at times willing to bend it to serve what she considers justice.

Prior to the show, she was partnered with Evangeline Navarro, but a traumatic case split their once close working relationship.

She is tasked with investigating the disappearance of the eight researchers at the Tsalal Arctic Research Station.

At home, she is the stepmother to Leah, with whom she has a fraught relationship.

Detective Evangeline Navarro

Played by: Kali Reis (Rebuilding, Black Flies)

Evangeline becomes the secondary detective on the researcher investigation when she realises there’s a connection with a years-old cold case.

She has a contentious relationship with Liz after a case they worked on years prior ended in disaster, and she moved from working in Alaska Police to becoming a state trooper.

She is often looking after her sister, Julia, who suffers from severe mental health issues including visions that haunt her.

Evangeline Navarro

Peter Prior

Played by: Finn Bennett (Black Doves, Eye for an Eye)

Peter Prior is new to the police force but is eager to impress Liz Danvers, seeing her as a mentor. Over time, Liz sees him as a confidante. He is haunted by a traumatic incident from his childhood where he fell through the ice and almost died. He is a man of high integrity.

Ted Connelly

Played by: Christopher Eccleston (Doctor Who, 28 Days Later)

Ted is the regional Chief of Police who has a long and complicated history with Liz Danvers spanning nearly two decades – both personally and professionally. When the bodies of the scientists are discovered, he is eager to move the case over to Anchorage, while Liz fights to keep it in Ennis.

Hank Prior

Played by: John Hawkes (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Winter’s Bone)

Hank is an officer for the Ennis Police Department, who was part of the team investigating the deaths of both Alice K and the Tsalal team. He does not accept Danvers’ authority willingly, especially when it comes to how to handle the case. His son, Peter, has followed in his footsteps to become a cop. At one point, he had musical dreams, but his ex-wife didn’t think he was very good.

Leah Danvers

Played by: Isabella Star LaBlanc (Long Slow Exhale, Dexter: Resurrection)

Leah is the teenage stepdaughter of Liz Danvers, though they have a contentious relationship. She is considered a rebellious type by her stepmother, though Leah mainly fights for what she believes in, and wants to know more about her Native American heritage. She is also fiercely against the mine being built in the town, joining in on the protests.

Rose Aguineau

Played by: Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve, Andor)

Rose is a local Ennis resident who moved to Alaska after quitting her job as a professor for a quieter life. She’s now haunted by visions of her dead lover and discovers the bodies of the men missing from Tsalal Arctic Research Station.
