Everything you need to know about A Discovery of Witches
A Discovery of Witches follows the story of Diana Bishop, a tenured historian at Yale University who hides her magical heritage after her parents, both powerful witches, were killed when she was younger.
Heading to England’s Oxford University for her research, she accidentally summons a bewitched manuscript, Ashmole 782, while at the Bodleian Library. The manuscript, which is unreadable, is believed to contain information about the origins of the supernatural.
Desperate to discover what the manuscript is hiding, she reluctantly seeks the help of geneticist Matthew Clairmont, who is also a vampire – a supernatural species with an uneasy history with witches.
But this uneasy alliance later paves way for a forbidden romance as the pair join forces to protect the book and discover the mysteries it’s keeping.
As she’s drawn further into the magical world, Diana finds herself finding out more about her past and embracing her true nature as she’s faced with threats she could have never imagined.
First launching in September 2018, A Discovery of Witches has since developed a cult fandom, and ran for three seasons, concluding in 2022.
At the time of writing, it maintains an impressive 87% fresh score on review aggregate site, Rotten Tomatoes.
The series is based on the All Souls Trilogy novels created by Deborah Harkness.
