In 2022, The Unofficial Science Of… format burst onto the scene with the release of The Unofficial Science of Home Alone. And burst it did. In fact, the special was so popular it was Sky’s biggest original entertainment launch of 2022.

The Unofficial Science of Home Alone explored the cult-classic Christmas film Home Alone and saw comedians James Acaster and Guz Kan step into the shoes of The Wet Bandits to discover how Harry and Marv would have survived those traps in real life. And whilst the experiments were underway, Alex Brooker headed stateside to visit some of the films iconic locations and meet some of the cast and stuntmen that were involved.

In December 2023, The Unofficial Science Of… returned with a brand-new special: The Unofficial Science of Die Hard. The special saw comedians Chris Ramsey and Paul Chowdhry, alongside engineer Zoe Laughlin, scientifically assess stunts from much-loved Christmas action film, Die Hard. From rooftop escapes to walking over shattered glass, Chris and Paul put these stunts to the test and along the way set out to answer the biggest question of all…Is Die Hard a Christmas movie?

And because one Christmas treat is never enough, December 2023 also saw the arrival of The Unofficial Science of Indiana Jones. In the Indiana Jones special, Greg James and Maisie Adam teamed up to tackle some of the classic Indiana Jones stunts – we’re talking dodging poisonous darts, outrunning giant boulders and surviving fireballs.
