What is The Terror about?
The Terror is a supernatural horror series that blends fact with fiction to create something far more chilling.
As an anthology series, each season tells a different, complete story with a different cast of characters – taking a historical event and implanting a supernatural element into a story. As such, it should be taken as fiction, although its launch point is something from reality.
Season one, titled simply The Terror, tells the story of Captain Sir John Franklin and the men on board the Royal Navy's polar explorer ships HMS Erebus and HMS Terror, which were lost during an expedition to the Arctic between 1845 to 1948. The series imagines what happened to the crew when the ships become stuck in the ice, with resources running low and a fight against the elements began.
Season two, titled The Terror: Infamy, is set in California during World War II, where a mythological entity known as bakemono starts tormenting a community of Japanese American survivors.
Season three, The Terror: Devil in Silver, follows a man who is wrongfully committed to a psychiatric hospital as he fights for his freedom against the patients and doctors who work there – but encounters supernatural beings along the way.
First launching in 2018, The Terror has been widely critically praised, winning Best Television Series at the Satellite Awards in 2019.
How many seasons of The Terror are there?
The Terror has run for three seasons to date.
The Terror ran for 10 hour-long episodes, as did the second season The Terror: Infamy.
The Terror: Devil In Silver runs for a shortened six-episode season – bringing the total episode count to 26.
