The Real Manhunter follows the cases of former Detective Chief Inspector Colin Sutton, a man who, during his 30 years on the police force, helped secure the convictions of some of the UK’s most heinous criminals.
Across the series, Sutton revisits his previous cases, taking viewers through each step made from the moment he was assigned it to the breakthrough moment that got the person responsible.
Visiting locations and talking with others involved in each case, Sutton also discusses how the police were able to gather the evidence needed to bring these criminals to justice.
His cases cover everything from child killers to devastating fires.
First launching in 2021, The Real Manhunter gives an in-depth inside look into the mind of not just the criminals, but also the officers who worked hard to get a conviction.
Who is Colin Sutton?
Colin Sutton, the titular Real Manhunter, is a Former Detective Chief Inspector who spent 30 years on the force.
This includes nine years as a Senior Investigating Officer in the Metropolitan Police Homicide Command.
He is best known for the arrest and conviction of serial killer Levi Bellfield, and Delroy ‘The Nightstalker’ Grant, both of which he has written books on.
Sutton now works as a broadcaster and writer, often giving his expert opinion on unfolding cases on ITV News, as well as providing technical advice to screenwriters and authors to authentically portray an investigation.
His father was also in the police, and his son has also followed in his footsteps.
How many seasons of The Real Manhunter are there?
The Real Manhunter has aired for three seasons to date.
Each season runs for 45-minutes, with the exception of two 90-minute episodes covering the Bellfield and Nightstalker cases.
Season four arrives in January 2025.
