Attending boarding schools before eventually going to the esteemed Eton College, he later enrolled at Guildhall School of Music and Drama after deciding to pursue acting aged 16.

After a string of one-off roles in shows including A Touch of Frost and Robinson Crusoe, Lewis started working with the Royal Shakespeare Company in the late 1990s.

In 2020, the pair helped support the launch of Feed NHS by restaurant Leon during the Covid-19 lockdowns in the UK, helping raise over £1million. The initiative helped provide food for care workers on the front line during the height of the pandemic.

McCrory died in 2021 from cancer at the age of 52.

Together, the pair had two children, daughter Manon (born 2006) and son, Gulliver (born 2007).

Lewis was awarded an OBE in Queen Elizabeth’s 2014 birthday honours in recognition of his services to drama, and a CBE in the 2022 Birthday Honours for his services to drama and charity.
