Discover the music of The Idol

After months of hype and media interest, The Idol dropped on Sky at the beginning of June. Starring Abel ‘The Weeknd’ Tesfaye and Lily-Rose Depp, the series follows the story of aspiring popstar Jocelyn who faces the challenges of fame as she navigates a relationship with club owner Tedros.

In addition to starring and co-creating the show, Abel ‘The Weeknd’ Tesfaye has created a whole new album which also serves as the soundtrack for the series. Speaking with Interview about the album, The Weeknd revealed “I’ve been inspired by The Wall and Purple Rain and when Bowie was doing it, but even films like Shaft, the music is literally telling the story of the film. But I want to take it to the next level. I want to challenge myself, and I feel like, as a musician, I’m the best I’ve ever been.”.

The full album is yet to be released but the official The Idol Spotify Playlist has all the featured music and original songs created for the series, so you can get a taste of what you’re in for. The playlist is updated each week in line with each episode dropping, so make sure you check back in after each episode has aired so you can hear the latest tracks.

What music is used in the trailer?

There have been a number of trailers released for The Idol but the teaser trailer released in April used Britney Spears’ single ‘Gimme More’.

Did The Weeknd do the music for The Idol?

Alongside serving as a co-creator for The Idol, The Weeknd is also the mastermind behind the series soundtrack. The music was initially released as a series of EPs in line with each episode and an upcoming album is rumoured to be in the works.
