Ted
Everything you need to know about Ted – the TV prequel to hit film franchise Ted

Taking us back to 1993, Ted: The TV Series follows this beloved, foul-mouthed teddy bear as he makes himself at home in Framingham, Massachusetts with his best friend John, who wished him to life as a child.
But now John is 16 years old, and Ted is beginning to feel a little like a nuisance to the Bennett family – with parents Matty and Susan, as well as cousin Blaire, aware of the bad influence Ted has on John.
However, Ted is unwaveringly loyal to the whole family, and they can’t help but feel like he’s one of the family regardless. And it’s not like any of them are perfect anyway.
When Ted causes too much mischief when he’s left home alone, it’s decided he has to start attending John Hancock High School alongside John. But Ted doesn’t want to, so starts making moves to get him, and potentially John, kicked out.
Upon its release in 2024, Ted earned a 74% critics score and a 90% fan score on Rotten Tomatoes after 500 ratings.
How many episodes of Ted are there?
At the time of writing, Ted has run for one season, totalling eight episodes – but there are more on the way!
It was confirmed in November 2025 that season two is on its way, will also be eight episodes long, and will be released in March 2026.
Showrunners Seth MacFarlane, Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh said of the second season: “We’ve made a second season of our show Ted which we are excited to share with you. The episodes represent the hard work of our fellow writers, gifted actors, and talented crew, including the visual effects team who bring the character of Ted so convincingly to life.”
“We hope you enjoy these eight somewhat filthy, hopefully funny heartfelt episodes about a young man, his talking teddy bear, and their highly dysfunctional family. On the off chance the series is not your cup of tea, a great way to get us back is to leave all the episodes playing to completion on multiple devices throughout the house. That’ll show us.”

Who stars in Ted?
The main cast throughout the show’s run are: :
- Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy, American Dad) as the voice of Ted
- Max Burkholder (Parenthood, The Purge) as John Bennett
- Alanna Ubach (Euphoria, Legally Blonde) as Susan Bennett
- Scott Grimes (ER, Band of Brothers) as Matty Bennett

What is the age rating of Ted?
Ted has been rated 15 – meaning it has been deemed unsuitable for young children and teenagers.
This is due to the series containing: ● Sexual innuendos and jokes including comedic drawings ● No nudity but discussions and scenes alluding to sexual acts ● Some scenes of violence (but purely for comedic effect) ● Frequent and common use of profane language - particularly f**k (which is used nearly 400 times in the first season alone) ● Depictions of drug and alcohol use by teenagers – most prominently marijuana ● Discriminatory jokes
Is Ted a spin-off?
Yes! Ted: The TV Series is actually a prequel spin-off from the smash hit movies.
First released in 2012, the comedy stars Mark Wahlberg as an adult version of John Bennett, who at the age of 35 is still living with Ted. Ted’s presence and the pair’s drunken antics is beginning to wear on John’s girlfriend, Lori, who after being with him for four years wants to settle down and move forward with their lives.
Ted 2 was released in 2015, and picks up with John and Ted in the years that followed, with Ted fighting for his rights to be recognised as a person rather than a teddy bear in order for him to adopt a child.
Both Ted and Ted 2 are available to watch now on Sky Cinema, so you can be fully in the loop with the franchise!
