A group of amateur sewers show off their skills in a series of timed challenges in order to be crowned `Britain's best home sewer'. Under the watchful eye of Savile Row designer and tailor Patrick Grant and costume designer Esme Young, the sewers must prove they have what it takes in order to avoid elimination and make it to the next round. Challenges include sewing from a pattern, transforming an item of clothing, and sewing made-to-measure clothes. The judges will carefully study the cut and finish of clothes to decide who gets to remain in the competition.

Episode 1Basic Construction

Ten sewers follow a difficult pattern for a woman's top made up of four pieces.

Episode 2Children's Week

The sewers hope to show the judges that they can make beautiful clothes on a small scale.

Episode 3Lingerie Week

The sewers work with the fiddliest of pattern pieces and the most delicate fabric.

Episode 4International Week

The sewers must tackle techniques and garment styles from other cultures and continents.

Episode 51960s Week

The sewing room is transported back to the 1960s.

Episode 6Activewear

In the quarter-final, the five remaining sewers sweat it out over activewear.

Episode 7Puzzling Patterns and Pattern Cutting

In the semi-final, the sewers are tasked with making an asymmetric yoked skirt.

Episode 8Evening Wear

The three finalists create three pieces of evening wear to try to impress the judges.
