What you need to know about Scrubs
Scrubs is a medical sitcom following the daily lives of the doctors and patients of the fictional Sacred Heart Hospital.
The series is told through the eyes of John “J.D.” Dorian, who narrates the show.
First launching in 2001, the series ran for nine seasons before ending in 2010.
In 2025, it was confirmed the show would be back for a reboot with most of the main cast returning.
The revival premiered in February 2026, with a second season set to launch in September 2026.
What is Scrubs about?
Scrubs is a medical sitcom set at Sacred Heart teaching hospital. The series follows John “J.D.” Dorian as he begins his first year on the wards, with viewers experiencing the hospital, its patients and its staff through his imagination-led point of view.
As the series progresses, J.D. bonds with his fellow interns and residents while moving up the career ladder. Each episode balances new patient stories with his friendships, romances and working relationships inside Sacred Heart.
From J.D.’s perspective, everyday moments often become imagined or exaggerated set pieces, turning hospital life into sitcom tropes, pop culture references and, in one memorable episode, a musical.
First launching in 2001, Scrubs became an international favourite, earning 33 wins and 136 nominations overall, including 17 Emmy nominations and two Emmy wins during its run.
After ending in 2010, the series was announced for a reboot in 2025, with most of the main cast returning to their characters.
The revival premiered on Disney+ in February 2026, with a second season set to launch on 30 September 2026.
