What is Pride and Prejudice about?
In a new adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic 1813 novel, Pride and Prejudice follows the love story of Elizabeth Bennet as she navigates a prim and proper society.
With the future of the family’s Longbourn Estate on the line (as it can only be inherited by a male heir), Mrs Bennet makes it her mission to find appropriate marriage matches for her five daughters – Elizabeth, Kitty, Mary, Jane and Lydia – as they come of age.
In order to maintain their lifestyle, they need to marry well into society. When Charles Bingley arrives in the area, he quickly forms an attachment with Elizabeth’s sister, Jane. But strong-headed Elizabeth is left unimpressed with the friend that accompanies him, the closed-off and arrogant-seeming Mr Fitzwilliam Darcy.
But first appearances can be deceiving, and soon Elizabeth finds herself growing emotionally attached to Mr Darcy, while at the same time finding a potential romantic match in another suitor, the charming Mr George Wickham.
As the story plays out and true feelings and intentions come to light, Elizabeth and Darcy both have to learn to cast aside her judgements in order to find true happiness, and love.
Pride and Prejudice is adapted for Netflix by Dolly Alderton (Everything I Know About Love) and is set for release in Autumn 2026.
