What is Possession about?
The past is coming back to haunt a hot-shot lawyer – quite literally – in Possession, a brand new Sky Original thriller series.
Gugu Mbatha-Raw leads as Claudia, an ambitious young bi-racial lawyer who finds herself on a trip to Jamaica in a bid to challenge an inheritance claim filed by local resident Cudjoe East against wealthy white aristocrat Oliver Connaught.
However, her mission takes an unexpected turn when she discovers the contested estate is the Connaught family’s Jamaican former plantation, Hope Hill – the same ominous house that has been haunting her nightmares:
As Claudia and Oliver begin to investigate, they soon uncover a chilling connection between historical horrors and present-day injustices.
Possession is an ambitious genre-bending series that boldly confronts the enduring legacy of colonialism, marrying shadowy intrigue with the pulsating energy of the Caribbean.
The story is set between Bristol in the UK and Jamaica, and is created by acclaimed writer and actor Karla Crome (Am I Being Unreasonable, Carnival Row). It is directed by Storm Saulter (Better Mus' Come, Sprinter) and produced by Snowed-In Productions in association with Sky Studios.

What is the age rating of Possession?
Possession has been rated 15 for the entire series – except for episode three, which has been rated 18.
This means the show has been considered unsuitable for younger audiences, with episode three suitable for adults only due to its content.
The rating is due to the series containing:
- Racially charged offensive language
- Scenes intended to jumpscare
- Scenes of violence including use of guns and acts of torture
- Depictions of slavery - including mistreatment, racist acts
- Graphic of dead bodies including an apparant suicide
- Scenes of supernatural and peril
- Intense scenes of distress some may find upsetting
