The past is coming back to haunt a hot-shot lawyer – quite literally – in Possession, a brand new Sky Original thriller series.
Gugu Mbatha-Raw leads as Claudia, an ambitious young bi-racial lawyer who finds herself on a trip to Jamaica in a bid to challenge an inheritance claim filed by local resident Cudjoe East against wealthy white aristocrat Oliver Connaught.
However, her mission takes an unexpected turn when she discovers the contested estate is the Connaught family’s Jamaican former plantation, Hope Hill – the same ominous house that has been haunting her nightmares:
As Claudia and Oliver begin to investigate, they soon uncover a chilling connection between historical horrors and present-day injustices.
Possession is an ambitious genre-bending series that boldly confronts the enduring legacy of colonialism, marrying shadowy intrigue with the pulsating energy of the Caribbean.
The story is set between Bristol in the UK and Jamaica, and is created by acclaimed writer and actor Karla Crome (Am I Being Unreasonable, Carnival Row). It is directed by Storm Saulter (Better Mus' Come, Sprinter) and produced by Snowed-In Productions in association with Sky Studios.
Speaking on the project, Crome said: “I feel humbled to be working with such a brilliant team both here and in Jamaica. It is a privilege to see Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Jonny Lee Miller, Sheldon Shepherd and Bel Powley bringing my characters to life under Storm Saulter’s evocative direction and I can’t wait to share our work with audiences.”
