Everything you need to know about Peacemaker
Peacemaker picks up with John Cena’s superhero six months after the events of 2021’s The Suicide Squad – where it was revealed his patriotism and desire for peace at any cost generally results in him resorting to lethal violence.
After sustaining severe injuries during the events of ‘Project Starfish’, he is taken into the care of secret government organisation ARGUS (Advanced Research Group Uniting Super-Humans) and nursed back to health for the following five months.
Once discharged, he is presented with the option of either returning to Belle Reve prison or becoming part of a new team called Project Butterfly.
Their mission? To track down and eliminate targets believed to be aliens infiltrating powerful and influential people around the world.
Now working alongside Clemson Murn, Leota Adebayo, and ARGUS agents Emilia Harcourt and John Economos (as well as his pet eagle, Eagly), Peacemaker – real name Christopher Smith – still has a bomb in his head that could go off and kill him should he disobey orders.
As his mission continues, Peacemaker is forced to come to terms with his ethos and the harm it has done to those around him, grappling with some of his past decisions – but as he does so, there may be people close by that aren’t out for his best interests.
First launching in 2022, Peacemaker was the first TV series set in the DCEU. It was joined by the adult animated series Creature Commandos in 2025 and a second season in the same year. James Gunn, who has now taken a leading role in the forward planning of the DCEU, is showrunner for the series.
