Obsession

Bear, a young and lonely music store clerk, has been harbouring feelings for close friend and co-worker Nikki for years – but has never quite had the guts to tell her, even though everyone around the pair know about it.

When Nikki announces she’s handed in her two weeks’ notice on the same night Bear’s beloved pet cat dies, Bear goes on a night out with her, but not before swinging by a holistic store in order to buy a necklace to replace one Nikki had broken.

Instead, he ends up buying a One Wish Willow, a strange mysterious collectible that claims, once it’s broken, it will grant you one wish. But it warns there’s no takebacks, and the results might not be what you imagine.

Later that night, when he tries and fails to share his feelings for Nikki once again, Bear snaps the willow himself, wishing that she would “love him more than anyone else in the world”.

The wish works – too well, in fact. Very quickly Nikki becomes obsessed with Bear, demanding his attention in any way possible, with her behaviour becoming increasingly erratic as the wish takes hold.

As things get worse by the day, will Bear have it in him to find a way to reverse the spell before it's too late?

Created by Curry Barker, a 26-year-old filmmaker who first developed a following via YouTube comedy skits with his group That’s a Bad Idea.

A word-of-mouth hit, Obsession was made on a shoestring budget of $750,000, and within three weeks of its release in cinemas it had become one of the most profitable movies of the year, with increased sales week-on-week (a feat unseen since 1982 when E.T. was released), and breaking the $100million mark.

Director Curry Barker also makes a voice cameo as a customer service representative of the makers of the One Wish Willow.
