What is New Zealand Spy about?
New Zealand Spy is a new period comedy centred on the New Zealand Intelligence Agency.
Set around the late 1960s, three new recruits – Michael Riviera, Sue Nightingale and Michael Anderson – land the job after answering a newspaper ad and arrive for their two weeks of training before being sent out into the field.
Their first mission? Uncover the top-secret plot by the Australian Secret Intelligence Service to assassinate the foreign minister of India.
The mismatched team of agents need to work together to hone their skills, with their abilities only matched by their ineptitude.
Part sitcom, part homage to iconic spy movies and espionage thrillers like James Bond, New Zealand Spy mixes the action with deadpan comedy.
New Zealand Spy was the brainchild of Taskmaster New Zealand star Paul Williams, who co-wrote and starred on the series alongside his team.
The first season launched in New Zealand in June 2026 and is now showing on Sky in the UK.

New Zealand Spy season one runs for six, 25-minute episodes.
