Madeline Kingston is on a mission to find those who could have prevented her daughter Ellie’s death.

Rebranding herself to the bumbling, unassuming Madeline ‘Matty’ Matlock in honour of her daughter’s love of the detective show, she sets to work at Jacobson Moore law firm as their newest associate – at 75 years old.

Easily overlooked, Madeline uses her position to help the partners on their cases, while simultaneously trying to find out who hid information that would have pulled opioids off the market 10 years before they were eventually pulled.

But who is behind it all? And will Matty finally get the answers she’s looking for?

Matlock season one is 18 episodes long, starting with Matty’s first day at Jacobson Moore.

At Jacobson Moore law firm in New York, Madeline ‘Matty’ Matlock starts work as an associate at the age of 75. She tells her co-workers she’s falling into financial difficulties after the death of her husband.

She is quickly thrown on a case under the watchful eye of boss Olympia and shows off her skills in front of co-associates Billy and Sarah.

But there’s more to this little old lady than meets the eye – with her true reasons for being at Jacobson Moore revealed by the episode’s end.

Matty continues to find her feet at Jacobson Moore as she continues her covert operation to find answers – starting with getting access to Olympia’s phone.

Meanwhile, the team tries to help a teenager who has been accused of murdering a 16-year-old girl around the back of the bodega he works in. However, the stress of the situation has left the defendant mute.

Olympia and Julian struggle to find a peaceful ground when it comes to their children in the divorce.

The team is brought in to help the case of a woman who claims she was wrongfully fired for refusing her boss’s sexual advances. Through this, Matty is introduced to jury consultant Shae, who has a knack for noticing when people are lying.

Meanwhile, Matty takes more radical steps by stealing Olympia’s laptop, and tries to gain access to the company file room.

Olympia brings in Matty on a case to represent an elderly artist who wants to sue his building owners for the illness that killed his wife, but Senior makes moves to undercut their hard work. Matty gets a break in her case by finding files related to the opioid cover-up, and Edwin steps in to help her with her investigation.

Jacobson Moore gets embroiled in a class action lawsuit as a female drug user and ex-con sues the prison system for mistreatment, but then she goes missing and no-one else will testify. Edwin and Matty rely on Alfie’s tech expertise to lay some groundwork on their investigation. Matty finds herself in trouble when Billy sets her up on a dating website for older singles.

Julian and Olympia join forces to reopen an old case they lost two years prior, at a time when their marriage was close to collapse. Matty meets up with an old face with close connections to Ellie and makes headway in winning over Julian to get her onto pharmaceutical cases in a major step for answers.

It’s Christmas time and the team at Jacobson Moore have their own personal battles as well as the case of the week. Matty gets put on a case around drug company WellBrexa, where a TikTok savvy student is blaming them for nasty side effects from a clinical trial. Meanwhile, Billy is helped by Sarah to plan a romantic proposal for his girlfriend at the Christmas party, and Julian and Olympia find themselves rekindling their old flame.

A nanny at Olympia’s children’s school begs her for help after she’s fired from her job, but she’s also out for answers after Julian makes a confession to her about what happened during their marriage. Billy consoles himself with some Adele, and Matty gets frustrated when a hot lead reveals something more tragic, prompting her to get creative.

Elijah recruits Olympia to help his cousin in a wrongful termination. Edwin begins to worry that Matty is getting too attached to their suspects, just as they discover new information about Julian and Olympia’s former marriage. Meanwhile, Olympia and Julian’s battle turns career focused as they both vie for the same job.

Matty zones in on a main suspect in the opioid cover-up and makes plans to expose them. Olympia defends a nursing home accused of the wrongful death of a resident. Matty and Sarah find themselves having a friendly breakthrough after weeks of animosity, but a swift move could derail the bridge they’ve built. A discovery in Olympia’s office prompts Matty to think on her feet.

Olympia and the team work with an environmentalist entrepreneur who believes a rival company is stealing his technology. Matty finds herself on the wrong radars as her behaviour draws the suspicion of both Shae and Sarah, causing Matty to file an official complaint. Sarah finds herself even more ostracised among her team as she refuses to let her issue with Matty go. Edwin decides to hide something big from Matty.

Matty discovers Jacobson Moore’s security tracks employee movements through their keycards, prompting her to use the information it finds to her advantage. A custody case hits a little too close to home for Matty, as we find out more about her fraught relationship with Ellie before her death. Matty and Edwin clash as some home truths come to light for both of them.

Olympia and the team defend a sorority sister blamed for the death of a fellow sister after spiking her drink. It’s Family Day at Jacobson Moore, giving Alfie the perfect opportunity to do some sleuthing on behalf of his grandmother. Sarah has a proposal for love interest Simone. Back at home, Matty gets an unwelcome visitor.

Matty gets a major breakthrough in the WellBrexa case, linking two major suspects as culprits. Olympia continues a class action lawsuit against alcoholic energy drink Slamm’d. Matty’s younger sister makes herself at home in her house – and the investigation.

A whistleblower on the Slamm’d case makes themselves known - and they’re closer to home than anyone would think. Bitsy gets upset when she meets ‘Matlock’ for the first time. Olympia’s team gets a breakthrough. Matty’s opioid investigation heats up as she discovers concealed WellBrexa documents.

Olympia has her work cut out for her when she takes on the case of Eugene Molina, a man wrongfully convicted of murder 21 years prior. Mrs B asks Matty for help with something, but is unwittingly making a deal with the wrong person. Matty’s ruse runs dangerously close to getting rumbled.

Matty’s lie is finally rumbled – but will the sleuth expose her, or will they keep the secret to themselves? An abused pregnant woman begs Olympia for help to divorce her husband before it’s too late for both her and her unborn child.

Matty and her new investigative partner work on a theory about who is behind the burying of WellBrexa documents. Olympia is torn between her loyalties. Howard makes a decision over who will be made partner. Sarah decides to take on a client without prior approval, which infuriates her boss.

Matty makes some big decisions about her future, which causes friction between her and Edwin. Matty and Olympia have a trip to the bank to make. Sarah heads to court for the murder trial that could make or break her career. The truth behind who has the WellBrexa documents reveals itself.
