Following the story of a septogenarian’s quest for justice after the death of her daughter Ellie to opioid addiction, Madeline Kingston AKA ‘Matty’ goes on a mission to infiltrate the company she believes hid evidence that could have saved her daughter’s life.

All this while solving a legal case every week as well!

But Matty’s world wouldn’t be complete without her lovable but untrustworthy colleagues and clients. Can she solve the ultimate case and keep her cool while undercover?

Played by: Kathy Bates (Misery, Titanic)

At the age of 75, Madeline is heading back into the working world – but don’t be fooled by her little old lady act, she’s a clever and cunning woman, and an incredible lawyer.

As she makes herself at home in the Jacobson Moore firm, her legal work is only scratching the surface of her true purpose – finding justice for her daughter, who died of an opioid overdose.

Knowing someone at the firm withheld information that would have prevented the opioid crisis 10 years earlier, she is hoping to get into the team in order to to bring the person responsible down.

As a result she’s hiding her true identity, using ‘Matty’ Matlock as an alias in honour of her daughter, who loved the detective show.

Played by: Skye P. Marshall (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Black Lightning)

An ambitious and cutthroat junior partner at Jacobson Moore, Olympia reluctantly becomes Matlock’s boss – but the pair soon prove to be a dynamic duo.

With hopes of making it to senior partner, Olympia isn’t afraid to take the long-shot cases to prove her worth as a lawyer.

Currently going through a divorce with Julian, whose father Senior runs the company, she has remained in good favour of her soon-to-be ex-father-in-law. Because of this, she is one of the suspects Matty has in mind for who could have buried the opioid evidence.

Played by: Jason Ritter (A Million Little Things, Raising Dion)

As a senior partner at Jacobson Moore, Julian gets the big cases – but often struggles to come out from the shadow of his boss father and ambitious soon-to-be ex-wife.

While extremely friendly to everyone around him, he is also a man with secrets and regrets, which are sure to spill out as the series continues.

He is another of Matty’s top suspects in her personal case.

Played by: Leah Lewis (Nancy Drew, Elemental)

As a first year associate at Jacobson Moore, Sarah is desperate to get a foot up in her career as quickly as possible – but her impulsivity doesn’t always match well with her stubbornness, causing her trouble in the process. She wants recognition as the best but doesn’t do herself any favours with her behaviour.

Unlike anyone else on the team, Sarah is immediately suspicious of Matty, and even though Matty has an answer for everything, she can’t shake the idea that something is off about her new colleague.

Played by: David Del Rio (Maggie, The Baker and The Beauty)

A first year associate at Jacobson Moore, Billy is working underneath Olympia alongside Sarah and Matty.

He is desperate to prove himself in Olympia’s eyes, but unlike Sarah also takes kindly to Maddy, giving her the benefit of the doubt in some situations as he knows how good she is at her job.

Played by: Eme Ikwuakor (Inhumans, On My Block)

Elijah is a kind-natured attorney at Jacobson Moore, who at the start of the series is having a secret relationship with Olympia.

However, their romance is complicated by her impending divorce from Julian, with Olympia wanting to keep it quiet for now until it’s all finalised.

Played by: Beau Bridges (Masters of Sex, Homeland)

Senior is the managing partner at Jacobson Moore and is widely liked by his employees. Despite having his son on the payroll, he has a soft spot for Olympia, telling her that despite her split with Julian, ‘being a father-in-law is for life’. He’s also incredibly supportive in her career pursuits.

However, he’s also someone who knows how to trick the system into his favour, and just like his son, is not short on keeping secrets. He is Matty’s third major suspect behind her case.

Played by: Sam Anderson (Painkiller, Forrest Gump)

Edwin is Madeline’s devoted husband, who is helping her raise their young, tech-savvy grandson Alfie after Ellie’s death.

He may not always agree with Matty’s moves or decisions, but he supports her regardless, and often can’t resist getting involved in some of her schemes. He ultimately wants someone to pay for what happened to his beloved daughter.

Played by: Yael Grobglas (Jane The Virgin, The Island)

As a jury consultant at Jacobson Moore, Shae is a human lie detector, with innate skills in reading people and their body language.

It’s great in a case when you need to get the jurors on your side, but not so great news for Matty, who has to hold her nerve around Shae should her true motives for being at the company be revealed.
