What is Malcolm In The Middle: Life's Still Unfair about?

Malcolm In The Middle: Life’s Still Unfair picks up on the dysfunctional family from the beloved series Malcom in the Middle, which ran from 2000 to 2006.

Malcolm, the middle child of Lois and Hal, is no longer the teen we remember – but he’s just as smart and tightly-wound as ever.

Since moving away from home, Malcolm found himself a good job, has a teen daughter, Leah, and is currently dating his beautiful girlfriend. Basically, life’s pretty swell.

There’s just one small problem: his family, whom he has been deliberately avoiding as much as he can.

But when Lois demands he attend her and Hank’s 40th anniversary party, Malcolm’s carefully curated life threatens to crumble.

How will Leah handle the family dynamic? How long will it take him to get into a screaming match with his brother Reese? What pressure will his mum put on him this time?

He’s about to find out that family is forever: no matter how much you wish they weren’t.

Launching in April 2026, Malcolm In The Middle: Life’s Still Unfair is a continuation of the original series, with most of the main cast returning.

How many seasons of Malcolm In The Middle: Life's Still Unfair are there?

Malcolm In The Middle: Life's Still Unfair is currently billed as a ‘four-episode special event’ by Hulu.

Each episode runs for 30-40 minutes.

At the time of writing (April 2026) there has been no confirmation on whether the show will return for a second season.

Speaking to Collider ahead of the show’s launch, creator Linwood Boomer and producer Tracy Katsky noted there were currently “no conversations at all” in place about the series coming back for another run – but they’re not ruling it out.

Boomer said: “Well, it depends on how it does. There's a certain number, and I don't even know what it is, and I don't even know what it's measuring, but some piece of data has to hit a certain number, and if it's one shy, they won't ask, and if it's one over, they will ask, but not until then.”
