Everything you need to know about Hold the Front Page series 2

Josh Widdicombe and Nish Kumar are about to leap back into the weird and wonderful world of local news journalism with Hold the Front Page, returning for a second run. And this time, the boys are determined to do a lot better than they did before.

The new series will again follow the highs and lows of Nish and Josh as they travel across the UK working for a different local newspaper each week, on a mission to find real local stories strong enough to make the front page. Last series we saw the pair meet mermaids in West Sussex, they found themselves on the set of Emmerdale in Yorkshire, and not forgetting Nish’s attempt to chase Boris Johnson down in Blackpool!

In series two, Josh and Nish will embark on the next leg of their investigative journey around Britain; delving into local mysteries, taking part in unusual events, cover the burning issues of the day and perhaps enlist a celebrity or two to help them out along the way. With very little journalistic experience, and not the best track-record from last series, will they succeed in their quest for a stand-out story to make the front page?

How many episodes are there?

Josh and Nish will be looking for their big scoop across six episodes this series, testing their journalistic prowess at a different local publication each week. Their search for a story will take them across the UK from Cumbria to The Isle of Wight and will even take them on a European trip over to the Costa Blanca.

Who is Josh Widdicombe?

Stand-up comic and presenter Josh Widdicombe is a Devon-raised, self-described “stiff neck” and tea enthusiast. A household name across the UK, Josh is best known for co-presenting twenty-nine series of Channel 4’s The Last Leg along with the Parenting Hell podcast with friend and fellow comedian Rob Beckett.

Before embarking upon his career as a comedian, Josh did have some light experience in writing for print. This ranged from working as a sport journalist for The Guardian, to writing poems and puzzles for Dora the Explorer magazine.

He is also starring in new Sky comedy quiz show Rob Beckett’s Smart TV, with his old pal Rob.

Who is Nish Kumar?

South-London born Nish Kumar is a comedian known for hosting the satirical news programme The Mash Report from 2017 to 2021. His stand-up specials include 2016’s “It’s In Your Nature to Destroy Yourselves”, 2022’s “Your Power, Your Control”, and his current tour “Nish, Don’t Kill My Vibe.”

When it comes to journalism, Nish represents the hard-hitting yin to Josh’s fluff-heavy yang. While Josh loves the quirky, British, regional stories, Nish is looking to tackle the burning issues of the day and uncover the next Watergate scandal.
