What is Gavin & Stacey about?

Gavin & Stacey follows the life of the titular couple who, after months of flirting over the phone at work, finally make the leap to meet up.

Soon, the pair embark on a romantic whirlwind adventure together, with their eccentric friends and families in tow – both worlds apart from each other but not lacking in heart.

For Gavin’s family in Billericay, Essex, parents Pam and Mick rule the roost, while for Stacey, who lives in Barry Island, Wales, it’s her omelette-loving mum Gwen and her Uncle Bryn who lives across the street.

Soon these worlds collide as Gavin and Stacey’s romance brings them together. No one feels this more than their best mates, Smithy and Nessa, who join them on their first meeting and it’s hate at first sight (though that doesn’t stop them hooking up in the bathroom).

Gavin & Stacey became a phenomenon across the UK when it launched in 2006 on BBC3, before earning its spot on BBC One. Its finale, which aired on Christmas Day 2024, drew in 12.3million viewers as it aired on BBC One.

The series is created by James Corden and Ruth Jones, who play Smithy and Nessa respectively.
