What is Fire Country about?

In Fire Country, we meet Bode Donovan on a mission to change his life by becoming a firefighter.

Starting the series as a young convict in prison, Bode hopes to shorten his prison sentence by joining California Conservation Camp Program – a reintegration programme where inmates help Cal Fire’s Three Rock and Station 42 team.

Assigned to the town of Edgewater, his hometown, Bode finds the programme a fresh chance to lead a good life – but the road to redemption isn’t easy, and after leaving Three Rock station seeing his past, present and future collide with those on the team.

But with California prone to wildfires, particularly in the area, he needs to learn to put everything aside in order to save lives.

The series is partly based on the experiences of Max Theriot, who grew up in a fire-prone Northern California, and is the co-creator, executive producer and star of the series.

First launching in 2022, Fire Country remains a must-watch for fans. At the time of writing (June 2026) it has run for four seasons, with a fifth already confirmed by US network CBS.
