Dr Pimple Popper follows skin doctor Dr. Sandra Lee as she treats extreme and unique cases of skin disorders.

Launched in July 2018, the TV series tracks different patients in each episode and Dr. Lee’s efforts to bring them back to full health.

Her treatments range from surgical cyst removal to pimple popping/spot removal.

Dr. Lee rose to prominence in 2015 when several of her videos of pimple extractions on patients went viral on YouTube.

Her YouTube account now has 8.5 million subscribers, with over 3,200 videos of different kinds of extractions on patients.

Those she’s treating on her channel are largely anonymous and agree to be filmed in exchange for discounted treatment.

Who is Dr Pimple Popper?

Dr. Sandra Siew Pin Lee Rebish is a first-generation immigrant with Malaysian and Singaporean heritage. Her family moved to the States in 1969 and lived in New York before moving to California.

She is a board-certified dermatologist and a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the American Society for Mohs Surgery.

Dr. Lee attended medical school at Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, after completing an undergraduate course at UCLA.

According to her website, her internship was completed at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and she completed her dermatology residency training at Southern Illinois University in Springfield, Illinois.

She has been uploading videos of pimple extractions on her YouTube channel since 2010, with it since branching out to include other procedures aimed at educating viewers.

Since finding fame, Dr. Lee has launched her own skincare brand to help people look after their skin, signed up for her own TV show in 2019, and released a range of extraction tools under the name Dr Pimple Popper.

Dr. Lee lives in Upland, California, and runs a clinic, Skin Physicians and Surgeons, alongside her husband, fellow dermatologist Jeffrey C. Rebish.

How many episodes of Dr Pimple Popper are there?

As of August 2024, Dr Pimple Popper has run for nine seasons, totaling 91 episodes.

This includes 86 standard episodes and five themed specials covering events like Christmas and Shark Week.

There are also spin-off shows such as This Is Zit, which has run for eight seasons, and Before The Pop, which sees Dr. Lee head out on the road to people who can’t make it to her office.

What is the age rating of Dr Pimple Popper?

There is currently no official rating for Dr Pimple Popper in the UK; however, the discovery+ service has it listed as UK-15.

This means that it is considered unsuitable for children under 15 years of age.

Reasons for this rating include:

  • Extremely graphic depictions of real medical and surgical procedures
  • Blood and gore – including pus and infection – in a medical setting
  • Uncomfortable situations and stories some may find upsetting
  • Bleeped out profanity
