Earlier this week Robbie Gaston, Jennifer Elbourne and I, attended Lords cricket ground to provide live on the job audio description for Sky VIP competition winners; a team of visually impaired cricketers. Over the course of the two days the cricket team took part in an ECB masterclass: experiencing training sessions with coaches and players from London Spirit, played on the field at Lords, enjoyed a tour around the ground (including a visit to the museum and into the famous Long Room) then took in the women's and men's matches between London Spirit and Welsh Fire in The Hundred from the surroundings of the Sky Box.

It was a new and wonderful experience for us as audio describers to deliver this live and in person. We undertook many roles during our time with the team including help with positioning of players during training, describing the surroundings as we made our way around different areas of the ground and then on match-day providing a personalised commentary of the games including scores, player positions, shot directions and to warn anyone of approaching cricket balls when a six was struck! Just being there as an extra arm to guide the Sky VIP’s from place to place was also greatly appreciated.

This was such a rewarding and joyful experience, to make a real difference to the lives of our customers and one we’ll be hoping to do more of in the future.
