Here’s everything you need to know about the movie…
What is Anora about?
In Brighton Beach, New York, young Ani is a stripper and sex worker who is swept off her feet when the young and rich Ivan Zakharov comes into her life.
Singled out to entertain Ivan as the only stripper in his club who speaks Russian, Ani and Ivan bond after he hires her for a dance, and then later for her services.
The filthy rich and spoiled son of a Russian oligarch, Ivan is after an easy life, partying and playing video games all day when he’s meant to be in America studying.
Hiring Ani to spend the week with him, their relationship spirals into a whirlwind romance that results in a last minute trip to Las Vegas and a runaway marriage.
For the pair, it’s the perfect deal – Ivan gets to stay in America with his wife rather than go back to Russia, and Ani gets to live the affluent life she’s always dreamed of.
However, when Ivan’s parents find out about what he’s done, they send in their heavies to track the newlyweds down and annul the marriage.
Soon Ani and Ivan find the glossy fairytale life they planned for themselves disappear, and soon they’re in a cat-and-mouse chase around the city.
Are they as in love as they believe they are? Or is their fairytale about to come crashing back down to earth with a thud?
