
The Academy Awards is undoubtedly the biggest night in Hollywood, with hundreds of stars glamming up to celebrate the best of the last 12 months of films.
Those who are lucky go home with an Oscar statue – and cement themselves in the film industry’s legacy forever in the process.
This year has proven no different, with one of the most tightly fought battles for the ultimate prize, Best Picture, in recent memory.
But there can be only one victor, and on the night – held on March 4th in Los Angeles – Sean Baker’s movie Anora came out on top in a sweep of the evening.

I’m Still Here

I’m Still Here follows Eunice Paiva, a young woman and mother of five who is forced to deal with the forced disappearance of her politician husband, Rubens Paiva, during the military dictatorship in Brazil in the 1960s.
Desperate to keep her family together, Eunice tries to do right by her family while also looking into answers about what actually happened – much to the anger of those in power.
Nickel Boys

Based on the novel by Colson Whitehead, Nickel Boys follows the tragic story of Elwood Curtis, a young Black teen in the Jim Crow South of the 1960s, whose promising future is upended when a chance mistake has him arrested for car theft.
Sent to Nickel Academy, a brutal reformatory for young boys in Florida, Elwood is subjected to horrific abuse at the hands of the guards but finds solace in his friendship with fellow detainee Turner. Together, they try to survive together.
The Substance

Elizabeth Sparkle (Demi Moore) was TV’s aerobic class goddess for years, even earning a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. But when she’s unceremoniously ditched from the show on her 50th birthday, Elizabeth takes radical steps to maintain her youth by taking The Substance, a serum that promises a “younger, better version of herself”.
The procedure works – but not the way she expects, and soon she needs to keep this new version in check or suffer the horrible consequences.
