Historian Ruth Goodman takes farming brothers Rob and Dave Nicholson back in time to three different periods in history, World War II, the Victorian era and the Iron Age. They discover the innovations that revolutionised farming and what life was like for their farming ancestors, the innovations that stopped Britain from being starved during WWII, how the introduction of machinery in Victorian times led to unrest, and the lost farming practices of the Iron Age, in an exploration of the ingenuity of farming in Britain.
