The Rehearsal: Season 1 Guide Hero Image

Nathan Fielder is once again blurring the lines between reality and comedy in The Rehearsal.

Determined to help those who are struggling with a life decision or an awkward conversation, a fictional version of Nathan is here to help – in his own, off-kilter way, building elaborate sets and training his clients with every available scenario.

But soon he finds himself needing his own services, with each client offering him an insight into his own view of the world.

First released in 2022, The Rehearsal season one was widely critically acclaimed, earning a 95% Rotten Tomatoes score.

As the Metro said: “The Rehearsal may well be the most uncomfortable 40 minutes of television you’ll see in many years. It may also be the best.”

Here’s what you need to know about the first season of the show and how it played out.

Season 1 Episodes Recap

The Rehearsal season one is six, half-hour episodes long, and starts with Nathan taking on his first client for his rehearsal business.

Episode 1 - ‘Orange Juice, No Pulp’

New Yorker Kor Skeete has been lying to his quiz team about having a master’s degree and now wants to come clean – so brings in Nathan to help.

Nathan decides to simulate a fake quiz night and hires an actress to play “fake Tricia” in order to help Kor practice what he’s going to tell her.

Episode 2 - ‘Scion’

Angela is considering motherhood, so Nathan gets to work hiring a string of child actors for her to practice adopting and looking after a baby – but runs into trouble with Oregon’s child labour laws that force him to get creative.

As Angela struggles under the pressure of the rehearsal, Nathan finds himself stepping into the simulation as he gets too close to the situation.

Episode 3 - ‘Gold Digger’

Continuing Angela’s rehearsal, Nathan fasts forwards to make son “Adam” now three years old, but the pair clash over Halloween plans and Angela’s devout Christian beliefs.

At the same time, he takes on a new client in Patrick, who faces an awkward confrontation with his brother over their late grandfather’s will, which bans him from inheriting money if he’s married to a gold digger.

However, the emotional rehearsal leaves Nathan reflecting on his own situation.

Episode 4 - ‘The Fielder Method’

As his rehearsal business picks up, Nathan decides to teach potential actors “The Fielder Method” at his own acting studio – which is essentially light-stalking and imitation.

Things get a bit meta as Nathan doubts himself, leading him to conduct his own rehearsal, hiring a fake version of himself to reenact the class while he becomes a student.

Meanwhile, his continuing work with Angela and son Adam takes a new turn as they age the kid up to a teenager – who isn’t taking kindly to an “absentee father” and decides to act out, prompting even more actors to get involved in the increasingly bizarre situation.

Episode 5 - ‘Apocalypto’

In an effort to become more assertive, Nathan decides to challenge Angela on the decision to raise Adam as a Christian, seeing as he’s Jewish.

Soon, he’s rehearsing his own confrontations with Angela as he becomes increasingly part of fake Adam’s life, but the resulting actual conversation proves to have unexpected repercussions for Nathan.

Nathan decides to turn one of his former sets into a legitimate business.

Episode 6 - ‘Pretend Daddy’

It’s time to stage a birthday party for Adam, but Nathan runs into trouble when one of the child actors, Remy, who played the younger version of Adam, struggles to see the difference between acting and reality.

Finding himself trying to understand the parent/child dynamic himself, Nathan once again creates a rehearsal in which he becomes Remy’s mother, and a new child portrays Remi. In doing so, he hopes to see where they went wrong.

As a result, Nathan finds himself coming to an emotional conclusion.
