Paul Murton explores life on the Scottish islands in this programme that uncovers the area's past and reveals its connections with the present. Murton visits a number of islands located off of Scotland's coast, as well as some that are landlocked, to get an up-close look at some of the things that they are known for. He learns about the knitting patterns that make Fair Isle famous, uncovers secrets revealed by a Viking ship burial on Colonsay, and learns about the history of prisoners being incarcerated on the Bass Rock in the Firth of Forth.
