Obstetrician Dr William Masters recruits divorced mother and former nightclub singer Virginia Johnson to conduct pioneering research that unleashes the sexual revolution.

The sexual response study is banned from the hospital and Masters is forced to relocate to a St. Louis brothel, while Johnson finds herself fighting to save her job.
