What happens in And Just Like That: Season 3, Episode 7 – ‘They Wanna Have Fun’?
Warning: Major spoilers ahead
Carrie
Carrie visits Duncan to keep up with her deal to share drafts of their first chapters, revealing she loved the work he had given her.
After coffee with the girls at HotFellas, she meets Miranda who questions her about Charlotte’s odd behaviour and comments. Knowing Charlotte trusted her with the secret of Harry’s cancer diagnosis, Carrie panics under the pressure, and instead claims Charlotte’s dog, Richard Burton, has an inoperable tumour and is dying. She asks Miranda not to say anything.
The pair decide to throw a party for Charlotte’s birthday so she can have some fun.
Carrie later meets up with Gia for lunch, who tells her about Giuseppe’s father and her complicated relationship with her 10 stepchildren. Carrie shares that she’s having trouble with one of Aidan’s children, and Gia encourages her to be herself, because inauthentic never works. Carrie tries to make Anthony look good in front of her, and she comments that she “maybe has him wrong”.
Later that afternoon, after a visit from Seema, Miranda stops by with an over-the-top number of decorations for the party. She heads to Duncan’s to warn him about the impending noise and finds him reading her chapters. He credits her for a job well done, and she invites him to join them for the evening.
When he eventually does, she spends most of the evening with Duncan talking about the shared love of their work. Their time together doesn’t go unnoticed by Miranda – and Carries flips out when she notes she’s having fun with him, clearly hitting a nerve.
Anthony
Anthony finds himself in a panic when Giuseppe’s therapist mother, Gia (guest star Patti LuPone) comes to visit from Italy. In his efforts to make HotFellas look presentable for her, he puts his foot in his mouth, and she responds with a swipe at his height.
Things continue to be awkward between them, with Anthony’s efforts to impress her falling on deaf ears, and her using her therapist skills to analyse everything about him – including the sex appeal of the man at HotFellas.
But when she calls older men lusting after younger people ‘desperate’, he snaps and decides to stop trying.
Miranda
During coffee with the girls, Miranda notices odd comments from Charlotte, and later pushes Carrie into telling her what’s wrong, figuring out someone is sick.
Ahead of the party Miranda invites Joy, giving her the opportunity to meet the girls for the first time as her partner, and proceeds to go all out on the decorations, even buying a karaoke machine. However, she gets distracted after finding Carrie’s first chapter of her book.
As the party kicks off, Miranda turns into the host and goes out of her way to get pictures of Charlotte with Richard Burton, ignoring the kids and Harry in the process. She then tries to convince people to take up karaoke, which falls very quickly on deaf ears.
But when she speaks to Harry, she epically puts her foot in her mouth by telling him that Charlotte will be ‘devastated when the unthinkable happens’. It ultimately prompts him to come clean about the truth.
At the end of the night, Miranda and Carrie’s post-party debrief goes sour when she comments about her having fun with Duncan. She admits that it was nice to see Carrie having fun, and as she pushes, admits she feels Carrie has to try so hard to make her relationship with Aidan work, but wasn’t insinuating she was doing anything wrong by enjoying spending time with Duncan.
Charlotte
Charlotte has a heartbreak to deal with when Lily is dumped by her ballet boyfriend, Diego. Going for coffee with the girls, she comments it’s the last thing she needs as she has “a lot on her plate”, which doesn’t go unnoticed by Miranda.
When Charlotte goes shopping at Bergdorf’s, she catches Harry with another woman, Bonnie. When he acts suspiciously, he caves and admits she’s his personal shopper, who has been helping him buy her presents for years. Bonnie happily introduces herself, and comments on Harry being “brave”, nodding that she knows about his cancer. Charlotte scolds Harry for telling her, especially when he’s sworn her to secrecy.
When Miranda slips up at the party, Harry asks her what’s going on, and when Charlotte confesses she told Carrie as she’s struggling with the secret, he herds the girls into Carrie’s kitchen and tells them everything, allowing his wife to have the support network she needs.
Seema
Wanting to try something different, Seema goes to get eyelash extensions at a new salon and finds herself with an eccentric stylist who rushes through their appointment. The dodgy job later falls out in the middle of a meeting, leaving her with sore eyes.
Venting her frustrations to Carrie, sexual tension quickly arises when gardener, Adam, shows an interest in her, though she’s trying to keep it casual.
By the time of the party, Seema arrives with a Louis Vuitton eyepatch, with her eyelash issue prompting an infection. This doesn’t stop her flirting with Adam though, and soon the pair plan to slip off. But before they do, he decides to serenade her with Betty Davis Eyes to make light of the eyepatch, which charms her more than she expects.
They end the night by heading off into a cab together.
